1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
Baring
some team throwing the kitchen sink at Houston, the Texans will stay
here and likely take Clowney. Even without being a good fit in the
Texans defense, Clowney gives them the pass rusher they need.
2. Atlanta Falcons: Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo
When
it comes to the Falcons drafting we know that when Thomas Dimitroff
wants a player he gets him. The Falcons need a edge rusher and since
they can't get Clowney he'll get Mack who'll thrive in the Falcons 3-4
defense.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
Even
if Mack was here I think they would have gone with Watkins. They've
add so many pieces on defense and need help on offense. Add in GM David
Caldwell stated Blackmon might not play this season and it makes this
pick all the more likely.
4. Cleveland Browns: Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
The Mike Evans bandwagon is picking up steam and he's likely not going to fall past five. Evans would complement Josh Gordon and give whoever their QB is a big receiver to throw the ball up to.
5. Buffalo Bills: Greg Robinson OT Auburn
Head
Coach Doug Marrone wants to run the ball and would be estatic to get
Robinson here. But I think what happens is the Bills move up to get him
if he falls past the sixth pick. Robinson could start at right tackle
as a rookie before eventually moving to LT.
6. St. Louis Rams: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
After
the Raiders pick and now St. Louis passing up Greg Robinson you
probably think I'm crazy. However lets not forget that teams pick
players they know. Head Coach Jeff Fisher's roommate at USC was Jake's
dad who he also with Fisher in Houston and Tennessee for years.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Let's not forget that Lovie Smith is running this team and he'll be able to get the guy he wants. Yeah the Buccaneers have Gerald McCoy, but Donald and McCoy can play next to each other. Lovie needs a disrupter out of the front four and Donald gives them that.
8. Minnesota Vikings: Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
Don't
see the Vikings taking a QB here at eight, they'll go after Zach
Mettenburger in the second round. Instead look for new coach Mike Zimmer
to look for a piece on defense. They'd love Mack and could chose
Anthony Barr, but Gilbert could be too much to pass up to face off
against the tall corners in the division.
9. Oakland Raiders: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
There is word that the Raiders like Lewan the best over Matthews and Robinson. I wouldn't be shocked if the Raiders took him at five, but they want to move down and should find a suitor if Robinson falls to that pick.
10. Detroit Lions: Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
Under GM Martin Mayhew the Lions often go best player available and that could be Ebron here. Even though the Lions have Pettigrew and Furia they don't do what Ebron can. Look for Ebron to play the slot WR and help take pressure off of Calvin Johnson.
11. Tennessee Titans: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
With
the Titans moving to the 3-4 under DC Ray Horton they need a pass
rushing OLB badly. Add in that former UCLA DC Lou Spanos is now on the
Titans staff. QB could be an option, but they could wait till round
two.
12. New York Giants: Zach Martin OL Notre Dame
A
draft full of surprises has another one with Martin going ahead of
Taylor Lewan. However the Giants will pass on Lewan because of off the
field concerns. Martin will get a look at LT, but could end up being the
solution at guard or even center for a team that loves to run the ball.
13. New York Jets: Odell Beckham Jr WR LSU
They missed out on the guy they wanted last year and won't let it happen again. With adding Eric Decker they need somebody to complement the bigger receiver. Beckham is an outstanding route running and gives whoever the QB is a much needed weapon.
14. Philadelphia Eagles: Kyle Fuller CB Virginia Tech
I
don't see the Eagles take a WR. If you remember Chip Kelly's teams
at Oregon it was his RBs not the WRs that were the focal point of his
offense. Instead they'll go defense and Kelly wants tall athletic guys. They love Fuller and won't hesitate to move up to get him.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
Wide
Receiver has been a hot pick for the Steelers, but with Beckham gone
they likely wait till round two. Dennard is the top corner according to
some teams and his physicality and playing style fits the Steelers mold.
16. San Francisco 49ers: Brandin Cooks WR Oregon State
There is a ton of talk of the 49ers moving up to make a big splash. Word is they want Odell Beckham, but I see the Jets beating them out of him. But that doesn't mean the 49ers won't sit back and wait. Brandin Cooks gives them the deep threat they need to really open up their offense.
17. Arizona Cardinals: Blake Bortles QB UCF
I've
really come around on the Cardinals taking Bortles here. One hand the
Cardinals just missed out on making the playoffs, but Bortels fits what
Arians likes in a QB and with Palmer having maybe one more year it could
be a good thing to have Bortles sit and learn.
18. St. Louis Rams: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
One
thing we know about Jeff Fisher coached teams is they need to have good
safety play. TJ McDonald looks to be set at the strong safety spot,
but what about the free? Enter Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix who has the range to
play deep in coverage or match up with tight ends and slot receivers.
19. Miami Dolphins: Ja'Wuan Jones OT Tennessee
I could really see the Dolphins moving down and taking Jones. But if they can't move they could just take him here. They need a RT after signing Brandon Albert and love Jones. Personally I think it's a reach but they won't stop them.
20. Baltimore Ravens: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
Baltimore always ends up with somebody whose ranked higher and they fall
into their lap. That could happen here. But trying to figure out who
that is is going to be tough. Somebody will want to move up and then the Ravens can take Mosley who is a good value here.
21. Green Bay Packers: Ryan Shazier LB Ohio State
The Packers have long had a hole next to AJ Hawk and could fill that here with Shazier. Shazier is a physical freak and teams love his ability to blitz and go sideline to sideline.
22. Chicago Bears: Calvin Pryor S Louisville
With
Aaron Donald gone I don't see the Bears drafting a defensive tackle, prompting them to move down.
Safety has been a big issue for the Bears and they let Major Wright
leave without a fight. They'll give Conte another shot at the FS spot,
but Pryor allows them to continue to mix their safeties back and forth
like they did last year.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Xavier Su'a-Filo G UCLA
Most people project a wide receiver to the Chiefs here and that could happen. But as much as Reid loves to take receivers he loves taking lineman even more. Remember when he took Danny Watkins a couple of years ago? The Chiefs need a guard since Asamoah left in free agency.
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State
With the need for a cornerback and the Bengals love for drafting Big 10 players this makes Roby a likely landing spot for the Bengals. He'll compete with Terrence Newman and Adam Jones for the second CB spot opposite of Leon Hall.
25. San Diego Chargers: Jason Verrett CB TCU
This pick could be a receiver or cornerback, but I believe a corner is a
bigger need. They did finish 29th in pass defense after all. Some teams could shy from Verrett because of his size, but he could be the best cover corner in the draft. Don't forget that the Chargers GM was with the Colts when they took Tim Jennings.
26. Cleveland Browns: Derek Carr QB Fresno State
For all indications Carr is the Browns top choice at QB. They is a chance they take him with the fourth pick or even move down form there. But with the QBs falling, they could still get him here.
27. New Orleans Saints: Dee Ford OLB Auburn
Bringing
in Rob Ryan has brought back the swagger for the Saints defense.
However they need help at outside linebacker and have shown a lot of
interest with Dee Ford. Ford has experience standing up and his
athletic ability will come in handy.
28. Carolina Panthers: Joel Bitonio OT Nevada
For a team that was one of the best teams in the NFC to have this many
holes is pretty remarkable. WR is a huge need, but they've made it clear
that protecting Cam is top priority. Cyrus Kouandjio could be a possibility, but Bitonio is a better prospect and has the athletic ability teams want out of tackles now.
29. New England Patriots: Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame
This may be the prime spot for a team to move up and get a QB. However if the Patriots stay here they could go many different ways. But let's not forget that the Patriots love versatility. They also need defensive tackle help and Tuitt can play DE or DT in any scheme. Perfect Patriot player.
30. Dallas Cowboys: Marqise Lee WR USC
All the talk of Manziel to the Cowboys doesn't really make a ton of sense since Jerry loves Romo. Defense needs a ton of help, but Jerry loves offense and they could use another receiver to work the short to intermediate routes.
31. Denver Broncos: Ra'Shede Hagamen DT Minnesota
The Broncos pick could go anywhere and there is talk of them wanting to move up. To get who is unknown, but they have been linked to Hageman quite a bit. Hageman would be a good fit in that he gives them a player who can rush from the interior and play all over the line.
32. Jacksonville Jaguars: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
I do think Manziel goes in the first round, but I think it's somebody that going to move up. Jacksonville to me is the perfect fit because he translates well to their offensive system and head coach Gus Bradley comes from Seattle where he saw Pete Carroll thrive by letting guys be who they are.

Mock Draft (3.0)
1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
I'm still tempted to put Bortles here and still believe it's a realistic option. However this QB class is not that good and O'Brien may feel more comfortable taking Clowney here and seeing who falls to them at 33. In this scenario they get Bridgewater.
2. St. Louis Rams: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
Greg Robinson is the favorite for this pick by many, but Matthews is far more developed as a pass blocker than Robinson. Add in that HC Jeff Fisher has ties to the Matthews family and has been raving about him makes this pick more likely.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo
Jacksonville made it clear last draft that they are taking the best player regardless of position. QB is a position of need, but they'll likely pass and add a difference maker. Mack fits perfectly as the SLB in their 4-3 Under defense where he'll be able to match up with TEs and still rush the passer frequently.
4. Cleveland Browns: Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
I've long put Derek Carr here and still think that could be the choice. However the Browns may feel they can wait till 26 and with Watkins still here it's easier to pass. The duo of Watkins and Gordon would help any QB and the running game as you cannot commit a safety to the box.
5. Oakland Raiders: Greg Robinson OT Auburn
Oakland is clearly in win now mode and if they don't Allen and McKenzie are out. That means they won't be going QB and will take the best player. Robinson would give them the LT they needed when Veldheer left. Robinson immediately helps the run game of MJD and McFadden.
6. Atlanta Falcons: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
They need a pass rusher and a left tackle desperately but with Mack and Clowney both gone they'll have to get a tackle here. Luckily there are three good tackles in this class and the Falcons should have a shot at all three. Lewan is a better pass blocker than run which helps as this team moves more towards Matt Ryan throwing the ball.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
It's a copy cat league and the vogue thing is getting big receivers. Evans is massive and has good size which he uses to his advantage. Pairing him up with Vincent Jackson and you have a duo that will make it easy for Josh McNown to move the ball.
8. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr QB Fresno State
This pick may not take place here, but Carr and the Vikings are a perfect match. With Norv Turner in as the OC the Vikings will look to go vertical. Carr has a strong arm to go with his quick release and can make all the throws in that offense.
9. Buffalo Bills: Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
Even though Doug Marrone wants to pound the rock, they still need weapons for EJ Manuel. Getting Mike Williams will help the receiving core, but adding a dynamic tight end like Ebron will make it even better. Ebron will work the underneath routes and stretch the seam which should help free up Stevie Johnson and the running game.
10. Detroit Lions: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
Finding the next good safety will be a higher priority, especially one that can play both positions. That is what you have with Clinton-Dix. He'll take over Louis Delmas' spot at the SS position where he can thrive. The ability for him and Glover Quinn to play both positions makes disguising their coverage even easier.
11. Tennessee Titans: Blake Bortels QB UCF
I really don't see Bortles falling past the Titans here. With Ken Wisenhunt now the head coach and the Titans not picking up Locker's option it shows that they don't have complete trust in him. Add in that Bortles fits the type of QB that Wisnehunt has had success with in the past and it makes this all the more likely.
12. New York Giants: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
In letting Justin Tuck leave via free agency, the Giants have a hole opposite of Jason Pierre-Paul. Even if Damontre Moore steps up, they need more depth. Kony Ealy may never be the same player as Tuck, but his style is so similar. Ealy can play both DE spots and even move inside to DT on passing downs. That fits the Giants desire to have multiple DEs on the field on passing downs.

Where St. Louis goes with this pick will be a mystery. They could target a safety or a receiver, but don't count out Donald here. Michael Brockers is a very good NT in the Rams 4-3 defense. But they lack a true playmaker at the 3 technique. Getting a penetrating player like Donald would really allow Robert Quinn to get more single teams which can make this defensive one of the elite.
14. Chicago Bears: Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
The common thought is the Bears will take a DT here. And they could. However they already address their front four quite a bit in free agency while the cornerbacks have stayed status quo. Their three top corners are on the wrong side of 30 and finding a future cover corner is a must. Getting Gilbert would also be quite the value here.

Corner corner could be a possibility, but with the departure of Emmanuel Sanders and not really having anybody to step up the Steelers' hand my be forced. But that's not a bad thing when you getting Odell Beckum. Beckham may lack the size of some receivers, but he's an elite route runner and good after the catch.
16. Dallas Cowboys: Dee Ford DE Auburn
The transition to the Tampa 2 is getting closer and closer. Getting DT Henry Melton to play the 3 technique is the start, now finding a dynamic edge rusher is next. Dee Ford gives Dallas a DE with good athletic ability to bend the edge and pin his ears back and go get the quarterback. He isn't very big, but in the Tampa 2 that isn't a huge necessity.
17. Baltimore Ravens: Tim Jernigan DT Florida State
Baltimore has a habit of getting good players to fall right into their lap. So much so it makes mocking a pick to the very difficult. Jernigan may not seem like a logical pick at first, but the more you look at it the more sense it makes. Jernigan is a stout defender who can take on blocks and still make plays. He'll step right into Arthur Jones spot and have the defense not lose a beat.
18. New York Jets: Brandin Cooks WR Oregon State
Get Geno some weapons. Last year he had nothing to work will and actually played better than most thought he would. They added Eric Decker who will help as a #2 receiver. But they need somebody to go out and make plays. Cooks is in the Desean Jackson type of mold, but he's much more refined. He has elite speed, but remarkably he can go up and get the ball. This move would drastically help.

Martin could be the best possible solution because he has the skill set to play tackle, but projects best to guard. Either way he's good enough to play anywhere on their line. With Brandon Albert starting at LT, the Dolphins still need to find a guard and right tackle. Martin likely starts at RT but could be moved inside where he has All Pro written all over him.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
Two months ago if you had Anthony Barr outside of the top 10 you were crazy. Now some have him going in the second round. I still think Barr has a ton of talent, but he's still learning and isn't a very aggressive player. But he fits perfectly in a 3-4 defense and the Cardinals need somebody to rush the passer. Could be a match made in heaven.
21.Green Bay Packers: Calvin Pryor S Louisville
Safety play is becoming all the more important in the NFL and the Packers have some of the worst safeties in the NFL. MD Jennings was let walk to division rival Chicago which tells you how they felt about him. If they have a shot at Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix or Calvin Pryor they'll jump.

The common pick most people mock to the Eagles is a WR. However if you remember Chip Kelly’s offenses at Oregon, they were built around the running backs not the receivers. Kelly got a ton of production out of Riley Cooper, so he likely won’t use a high pick to get another one. Kelly wants to get long and athletic and and Kyle Fuller can help him do that. Fuller has good size, but also uses his athletic ability to stick with receivers. Adding him to Cary Williams only makes their defense better.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Marqise Lee WR USC
The Chiefs are really in a good position here because they should be able to address their three main needs with a quality player here. Jace Amaro could be their choice, but they can get a quality tight end in the third round and instead look to boolster the WR spot opposite of Bowe. Don't let this past season or Lee's numbers at the combine fool you. He's the playmaker the Chiefs need.
24. Cincinnati Bengals: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
It should be interesting to see what the Bengals will do. They’d love for a LT or Safety to fall to them, but that is unlikely being at the 24th pick. Instead the Bengals could look to shore up their linebacker core with Mosley. They great thing about Mosley is he is very good in coverage and running and tackling. He could play either MLB or WLB in the Bengals defense. Paring him up with Vontaze Burfict who could also play the MLB and WLB spots would allow the Bengals to disguise and be creative with their play calling.
25. San Diego Chargers: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
San Diego use to have one of the best cornerback tandems in the league, not its one of the worst. They need a number one guy and they might have that with Dennard. Dennard is a fluid cornerback who has the speed and quickness to stick with any receiver. He would go higher if he had more height and length. Regardless it's a great get for the Chargers.
26. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
With all the love the national media is giving Manziel it may be a shock to some to see him here. Manziel has some serious questions about his game that should cause him to fall. Cleveland passed on a QB at 4 but needs to take somebody with their first three picks. Manziel brings excitement and Cleveland needs it.
27. New Orleans Saints: Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
Rex Ryan's aggressive defense worked wonders last year without a good pass rusher off the edge. Gallette played well but they need help opposite of him. Van Noy is starting to pick up steam but he should have been this high all along. He's a versatile pass rusher who'd thrive in this defense.
28. Carolina Panthers: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State
The Panthers don't need a receiver, they realistically need two. But picking at the end of the first round they could be on the short end of a WR run. Luckily for them in this situation they'd have Kelvin Benjamin fall into their laps. Benjamin has some issues with work ethic and top end speed. But he fits well into the Panthers offense and would give Newton a big receiver to throw the ball up to.
29. New England Patriots: Louis Nix DT Notre Dame
Louis Nix isn't your typical nose tackle, he possess quickness and explosion you normally see out of sub 300 pound tackles. For the Patriots they'll see a lot of Vince Wilfork who won't be around forever. Nix's versatility will allow him to fit right in with the Patriots who love to play a hybrid 4-3, 3-4 defense.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB Nebraska
Big corners are in vogue and that should only help Jean-Baptiste whose talent has him up here anyways. The 49ers have a huge need at corner where only Eric Wright and Chris Culliver are the starters. Add in that Culliver could be cut any day and this should be their top priority. Also don't forget that Seattle could take SJB at 32 and the 49ers would love to steal him away.
31. Denver Broncos: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State
Even with the signing of Aqib Talib, the Broncos can't stand pat at cornerback. Especially with opposite starter Chris Harris tore his ACL and may have to start the season on the PUP list. Even if Harris is back for the start they need a third corner badly. Roby didn't have a great junior season, but the talent is there and would be worth the selection.
32. Seattle Seahawks: Xavier Su'a-Filo G UCLA
Who Seattle goes with will be a mystery since they go for fit more than value. Even with them winning the Super Bowl, their offensive line was an issue. They could really use a tackle and guard in this offseason. Su'a-Filo has been shooting up the draft boards and his ability to play in a zone blocking scheme makes him a fit.

Finding the next good safety will be a higher priority, especially one that can play both positions. That is what you have with Clinton-Dix. He'll take over Louis Delmas' spot at the SS position where he can thrive. The ability for him and Glover Quinn to play both positions makes disguising their coverage even easier.
11. Tennessee Titans: Blake Bortels QB UCF
I really don't see Bortles falling past the Titans here. With Ken Wisenhunt now the head coach and the Titans not picking up Locker's option it shows that they don't have complete trust in him. Add in that Bortles fits the type of QB that Wisnehunt has had success with in the past and it makes this all the more likely.
12. New York Giants: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
In letting Justin Tuck leave via free agency, the Giants have a hole opposite of Jason Pierre-Paul. Even if Damontre Moore steps up, they need more depth. Kony Ealy may never be the same player as Tuck, but his style is so similar. Ealy can play both DE spots and even move inside to DT on passing downs. That fits the Giants desire to have multiple DEs on the field on passing downs.
13. St. Louis Rams: Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Where St. Louis goes with this pick will be a mystery. They could target a safety or a receiver, but don't count out Donald here. Michael Brockers is a very good NT in the Rams 4-3 defense. But they lack a true playmaker at the 3 technique. Getting a penetrating player like Donald would really allow Robert Quinn to get more single teams which can make this defensive one of the elite.
14. Chicago Bears: Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
The common thought is the Bears will take a DT here. And they could. However they already address their front four quite a bit in free agency while the cornerbacks have stayed status quo. Their three top corners are on the wrong side of 30 and finding a future cover corner is a must. Getting Gilbert would also be quite the value here.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Odell Beckham Jr WR LSU
Corner corner could be a possibility, but with the departure of Emmanuel Sanders and not really having anybody to step up the Steelers' hand my be forced. But that's not a bad thing when you getting Odell Beckum. Beckham may lack the size of some receivers, but he's an elite route runner and good after the catch.
16. Dallas Cowboys: Dee Ford DE Auburn
The transition to the Tampa 2 is getting closer and closer. Getting DT Henry Melton to play the 3 technique is the start, now finding a dynamic edge rusher is next. Dee Ford gives Dallas a DE with good athletic ability to bend the edge and pin his ears back and go get the quarterback. He isn't very big, but in the Tampa 2 that isn't a huge necessity.
17. Baltimore Ravens: Tim Jernigan DT Florida State
Baltimore has a habit of getting good players to fall right into their lap. So much so it makes mocking a pick to the very difficult. Jernigan may not seem like a logical pick at first, but the more you look at it the more sense it makes. Jernigan is a stout defender who can take on blocks and still make plays. He'll step right into Arthur Jones spot and have the defense not lose a beat.
18. New York Jets: Brandin Cooks WR Oregon State
Get Geno some weapons. Last year he had nothing to work will and actually played better than most thought he would. They added Eric Decker who will help as a #2 receiver. But they need somebody to go out and make plays. Cooks is in the Desean Jackson type of mold, but he's much more refined. He has elite speed, but remarkably he can go up and get the ball. This move would drastically help.
19. Miami Dolphins: Zach Martin OL Notre Dame
Martin could be the best possible solution because he has the skill set to play tackle, but projects best to guard. Either way he's good enough to play anywhere on their line. With Brandon Albert starting at LT, the Dolphins still need to find a guard and right tackle. Martin likely starts at RT but could be moved inside where he has All Pro written all over him.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
Two months ago if you had Anthony Barr outside of the top 10 you were crazy. Now some have him going in the second round. I still think Barr has a ton of talent, but he's still learning and isn't a very aggressive player. But he fits perfectly in a 3-4 defense and the Cardinals need somebody to rush the passer. Could be a match made in heaven.
21.Green Bay Packers: Calvin Pryor S Louisville
Safety play is becoming all the more important in the NFL and the Packers have some of the worst safeties in the NFL. MD Jennings was let walk to division rival Chicago which tells you how they felt about him. If they have a shot at Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix or Calvin Pryor they'll jump.
22. Philadelphia Eagles: Kyle Fuller CB Virginia Tech
The common pick most people mock to the Eagles is a WR. However if you remember Chip Kelly’s offenses at Oregon, they were built around the running backs not the receivers. Kelly got a ton of production out of Riley Cooper, so he likely won’t use a high pick to get another one. Kelly wants to get long and athletic and and Kyle Fuller can help him do that. Fuller has good size, but also uses his athletic ability to stick with receivers. Adding him to Cary Williams only makes their defense better.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Marqise Lee WR USC
The Chiefs are really in a good position here because they should be able to address their three main needs with a quality player here. Jace Amaro could be their choice, but they can get a quality tight end in the third round and instead look to boolster the WR spot opposite of Bowe. Don't let this past season or Lee's numbers at the combine fool you. He's the playmaker the Chiefs need.
24. Cincinnati Bengals: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
It should be interesting to see what the Bengals will do. They’d love for a LT or Safety to fall to them, but that is unlikely being at the 24th pick. Instead the Bengals could look to shore up their linebacker core with Mosley. They great thing about Mosley is he is very good in coverage and running and tackling. He could play either MLB or WLB in the Bengals defense. Paring him up with Vontaze Burfict who could also play the MLB and WLB spots would allow the Bengals to disguise and be creative with their play calling.
25. San Diego Chargers: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
San Diego use to have one of the best cornerback tandems in the league, not its one of the worst. They need a number one guy and they might have that with Dennard. Dennard is a fluid cornerback who has the speed and quickness to stick with any receiver. He would go higher if he had more height and length. Regardless it's a great get for the Chargers.
26. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
With all the love the national media is giving Manziel it may be a shock to some to see him here. Manziel has some serious questions about his game that should cause him to fall. Cleveland passed on a QB at 4 but needs to take somebody with their first three picks. Manziel brings excitement and Cleveland needs it.
27. New Orleans Saints: Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
Rex Ryan's aggressive defense worked wonders last year without a good pass rusher off the edge. Gallette played well but they need help opposite of him. Van Noy is starting to pick up steam but he should have been this high all along. He's a versatile pass rusher who'd thrive in this defense.
28. Carolina Panthers: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State
The Panthers don't need a receiver, they realistically need two. But picking at the end of the first round they could be on the short end of a WR run. Luckily for them in this situation they'd have Kelvin Benjamin fall into their laps. Benjamin has some issues with work ethic and top end speed. But he fits well into the Panthers offense and would give Newton a big receiver to throw the ball up to.
29. New England Patriots: Louis Nix DT Notre Dame
Louis Nix isn't your typical nose tackle, he possess quickness and explosion you normally see out of sub 300 pound tackles. For the Patriots they'll see a lot of Vince Wilfork who won't be around forever. Nix's versatility will allow him to fit right in with the Patriots who love to play a hybrid 4-3, 3-4 defense.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB Nebraska
Big corners are in vogue and that should only help Jean-Baptiste whose talent has him up here anyways. The 49ers have a huge need at corner where only Eric Wright and Chris Culliver are the starters. Add in that Culliver could be cut any day and this should be their top priority. Also don't forget that Seattle could take SJB at 32 and the 49ers would love to steal him away.
31. Denver Broncos: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State
Even with the signing of Aqib Talib, the Broncos can't stand pat at cornerback. Especially with opposite starter Chris Harris tore his ACL and may have to start the season on the PUP list. Even if Harris is back for the start they need a third corner badly. Roby didn't have a great junior season, but the talent is there and would be worth the selection.
32. Seattle Seahawks: Xavier Su'a-Filo G UCLA
Who Seattle goes with will be a mystery since they go for fit more than value. Even with them winning the Super Bowl, their offensive line was an issue. They could really use a tackle and guard in this offseason. Su'a-Filo has been shooting up the draft boards and his ability to play in a zone blocking scheme makes him a fit.

2014 Mock Draft (2.0) Post Combine
1. Houston Texans: Blake Bortels QB UCF
Even though Clowney is the top player in this draft, the Texans will likely take a QB. O'Brien is a QB guru and wants his guy running the offense. Bortels can do everything O'Brien wants in a QB and there are obvious ties between the two.
2. St. Louis Rams: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
With the Rams needing to protect Sam Bradford, they're likely taking a tackle here. Greg Robinson is the favorite by many, but Matthews is far more developed as a pass blocker than Robinson. Add in that HC Jeff Fisher has ties to the Matthews family and that makes this pick more likely.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
I'm not ruling out Johnny Manizel here, but Jacksonville made it clear last draft that they are taking the best player regardless of position. That is clearly Clowney who would fit perfectly as the Leo in Gus Bradley's 4-3 Under defense.
4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
I really want to put Bridgewater here because he is the most NFL ready and the Browns are realistically only a QB and a RB away from being a division contender. BUT, this is the Browns who we are talking about and they may feel Manziel can give them a spark they don't have.
5. Oakland Raiders: Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
This might be best case scenario for the Raiders who get the top QB in this class and don't have to move up to get him. The Raiders desperately need a QB and Bridgewater is a guy that could really make a difference. But he'll also need weapons around him.
6. Atlanta Falcons: Greg Robinson OT Auburn
They need a pass rusher and a left tackle desperately and Mack or Barr could be strong possibilities. Pass rush is important, but they can't pass on Robinson here who is arguably a top five player. Robinson may have to start at right tackle at first, but even so the protection would be improving for Matt Ryan.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo
Tampa desperately needs help rushing the passer and may look at somebody like Kony Ealy because Lovie likes to get a pass rush out of his front four. But it will be too hard to pass on Mack who some consider the top player in the draft. Look for the Bucs to use Mack similar to how Denver uses Von Miller.
8. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr QB Fresno State
This pick may not take place here, but Carr and the Vikings are a perfect match. With Norv Turner in as the OC the Vikings will look to go vertical. Carr has a strong arm to go with his quick release and can make all the throws in that offense.
9. Buffalo Bills: Sammie Watkins WR Clemson
If Watkins is still available here I would assume somebody moves up with Minnesota (ahead of Buffalo) to take him. Watkins is a #1 caliber WR who has good size, excellent speed, and a knack for getting open. This addition will give Manuel another weapon and allow Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods to slide in more natural support roles.
10. Detroit Lions: Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
They'd love for Watkins to fall to them but they'd have to trade up to get him and that goes against what they do. But they still desperately need to take pressure off of Calvin Johnson and with Evans having a good combine his stock is red hot. Evans size and catch radius fits with Matt Stafford's style of chucking up the ball to his receivers.

The Steelers secondary has struggled to find a lock down corner for years, but may have found their answer here. in coverage and could use a true lock down corner. Gilbert solidified his spot as the top corner with superb combine performance where he showed elite athleticism to go with his instincts. Now the Steelers have to hope he lasts this long.

Donald really made a name for himself with a dominant performance at the Senior Bowl and then continued his momentum with a Combine performance to puts him square into the first round discussion. His quickness and speed make him a perfect fit as a 3 technique defensive tackle in a Tampa 2 style defense that the Cowboys are trying to run.
18. New York Jets: Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
New York really wanted Tavon Austin last year but missed out on him, and the lack of playmakers really hurt this offense. This pick could either be a receiver or tight end and with Evans off the board it looks like Ebron is the guy. If the Jets were able to get a couple of big games out of Kellen Winslow last year, imagine what they could do with a guy some are comparing to Vernon Davis.
19. Miami Dolphins: Zach Martin OL Notre Dame
It's totally realistic that the Dolphins will be starting five new offensive lineman on opening day with Martin, Incognio and Jerry all gone (Pouncey suspended). I predict they'll land Brandon Albert who they wanted last year, but they still need that guard. Martin could be the best possible solution because he has the skill set to play tackle, but projects best to guard. Either way he's good enough to play anywhere on their line.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Morgan Moses OT Virginia
They'd love to get Taylor Lewan who would fit the Cardinals scheme perfectly, but he's more likely to go in the top 10 than be available here. Instead they'll go with Morgan Moses who isn't the athlete that Lewan is, but he's a developing prospect with the skill set to help protect the quarterback on those five and seven step drops Arians likes.
21. Green Bay Packers: Dee Ford DE Auburn
They could go with a tight end, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Jermichael Finley. However the bigger priority may be getting help for Clay Matthews in rushing the passer. Dee Ford made a name for himself with a strong three game performance against Alabama, Missouri, and Florida State with this athleticism and ability to get pressure on the QB.

Cary Williams isn't a slouch, but when he's your number one corner you have issues. The knock of Dennard is he doesn't have great height, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in speed, quickness, and jumping ability. He wasn't named "No Fly Zone" for nothing.

The Chiefs are really in a good position here because they should be able to address their three main needs with a quality player here. In their need to add playmakers to the secondary the Bengals could also find a solution to their free safety position. Joyner's lack of size will scare some teams off and add that he played mainly cornerback this past year could have him falling. However he gets compared to Tyrann Mathieu a lot mainly because of his playmaking ability and that's exactly what the Bengals need.
25. San Diego Chargers: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
When add up that Thomas Keiser is your top pass rusher and Melvin Ingram continues to underachieve, you have some big issues. Kony Ealy could be a good weapon for this defense because he can play all over the field. He can line up as a DE in four and three man fronts and even play some OLB in the 3-4.
26. Cleveland Browns: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State
They got their future QB with pick #4, now they can add another weapon to make the offense even better. Manziel was successful at A&M because he could throw jump balls to Mike Evans. Benjamin is very similar to Evans but even bigger. Paring him up with Josh Gordon could do wonders for this offense.

Stephon Tuitt would fit in perfectly with the Saints aggressive 3-4 scheme. Tuitt has good size and is a versatile player that has the potential to dominant. His quickness and strength fits right into the scheme and at 6'6 300 pounds he has the size teams love out of the position.
28. Carolina Panthers: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
There are some that have Clinton-Dix going in the teens, but if a safety goes that high then he needs to be able to cover centerfield. I don't see that in Clinton-Dix, he's a strong safety and better at playing in the box and matching up with tight ends. That's not a bad thing, he'll be a vast improvement over Mike Mitchell.

The Steelers secondary has struggled to find a lock down corner for years, but may have found their answer here. in coverage and could use a true lock down corner. Gilbert solidified his spot as the top corner with superb combine performance where he showed elite athleticism to go with his instincts. Now the Steelers have to hope he lasts this long.
16. Baltimore Ravens: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
Baltimore has a habit of getting good players to fall right into their lap. Mosley could easily go #11 or #12 and nobody would bat an eye, but since the ILB spot doesn't carry a huge position value he could slip. Mosley can step into the Rey Lewis role as the run stuffer and blitzer.
17. Dallas Cowboys: Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Donald really made a name for himself with a dominant performance at the Senior Bowl and then continued his momentum with a Combine performance to puts him square into the first round discussion. His quickness and speed make him a perfect fit as a 3 technique defensive tackle in a Tampa 2 style defense that the Cowboys are trying to run.
18. New York Jets: Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
New York really wanted Tavon Austin last year but missed out on him, and the lack of playmakers really hurt this offense. This pick could either be a receiver or tight end and with Evans off the board it looks like Ebron is the guy. If the Jets were able to get a couple of big games out of Kellen Winslow last year, imagine what they could do with a guy some are comparing to Vernon Davis.
19. Miami Dolphins: Zach Martin OL Notre Dame
It's totally realistic that the Dolphins will be starting five new offensive lineman on opening day with Martin, Incognio and Jerry all gone (Pouncey suspended). I predict they'll land Brandon Albert who they wanted last year, but they still need that guard. Martin could be the best possible solution because he has the skill set to play tackle, but projects best to guard. Either way he's good enough to play anywhere on their line.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Morgan Moses OT Virginia
They'd love to get Taylor Lewan who would fit the Cardinals scheme perfectly, but he's more likely to go in the top 10 than be available here. Instead they'll go with Morgan Moses who isn't the athlete that Lewan is, but he's a developing prospect with the skill set to help protect the quarterback on those five and seven step drops Arians likes.
21. Green Bay Packers: Dee Ford DE Auburn
They could go with a tight end, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Jermichael Finley. However the bigger priority may be getting help for Clay Matthews in rushing the passer. Dee Ford made a name for himself with a strong three game performance against Alabama, Missouri, and Florida State with this athleticism and ability to get pressure on the QB.
22. Philadelphia Eagles: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
Cary Williams isn't a slouch, but when he's your number one corner you have issues. The knock of Dennard is he doesn't have great height, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in speed, quickness, and jumping ability. He wasn't named "No Fly Zone" for nothing.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Brandin Cooks WR Oregon State
The Chiefs are really in a good position here because they should be able to address their three main needs with a quality player here. Stephon Tuitt or Jace Amaro could be their choice, but instead they go with Cooks who reminds many of Desean Jackson. The KC offense lacked playmakers outside of Jamal Charles and Cooks gives them that homerun threat on the outside.
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Lamarcus Joyner S Florida State
In their need to add playmakers to the secondary the Bengals could also find a solution to their free safety position. Joyner's lack of size will scare some teams off and add that he played mainly cornerback this past year could have him falling. However he gets compared to Tyrann Mathieu a lot mainly because of his playmaking ability and that's exactly what the Bengals need.
25. San Diego Chargers: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
When add up that Thomas Keiser is your top pass rusher and Melvin Ingram continues to underachieve, you have some big issues. Kony Ealy could be a good weapon for this defense because he can play all over the field. He can line up as a DE in four and three man fronts and even play some OLB in the 3-4.
26. Cleveland Browns: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State
They got their future QB with pick #4, now they can add another weapon to make the offense even better. Manziel was successful at A&M because he could throw jump balls to Mike Evans. Benjamin is very similar to Evans but even bigger. Paring him up with Josh Gordon could do wonders for this offense.
27. New Orleans Saints: Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame
Stephon Tuitt would fit in perfectly with the Saints aggressive 3-4 scheme. Tuitt has good size and is a versatile player that has the potential to dominant. His quickness and strength fits right into the scheme and at 6'6 300 pounds he has the size teams love out of the position.
28. Carolina Panthers: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
There are some that have Clinton-Dix going in the teens, but if a safety goes that high then he needs to be able to cover centerfield. I don't see that in Clinton-Dix, he's a strong safety and better at playing in the box and matching up with tight ends. That's not a bad thing, he'll be a vast improvement over Mike Mitchell.
29. New England Patriots: Louis Nix DT Notre Dame
Louis Nix isn't your typical nose tackle, he possess quickness and explosion you normally see out of sub 300 pound tackles. For the Patriots they'll see a lot of Vince Wilfork who won't be around forever. Nix's versatility will allow him to fit right in with the Patriots who love to play a hybrid 4-3, 3-4 defense.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Fuller CB Virginia Tech
San Francisco has one of the top defenses in the NFL, but they are still weak at the cornerback position. Fuller has long been on that second tier of CBs but after an impressive combine his numbers back up his strong play. His cover skills will come in handy with the 49ers who love to blitz and put their CBs on islands.
31. Denver Broncos: Scott Crichton DE Oregon State
When the Broncos lost Elvis Dummervill they lost out on a big piece to their defense. Dummervill was very good in Leo role in their 4-3 Under defense and Shaun Phillips just couldn't fill that role. Taking Scott Cricthon here gives them an athletic end to come off the edge and provide pressure opposite of Von Miller.
32. Seattle Seahawks: Xavier Su'a-Filo G UCLA
Who Seattle goes with will be a mystery since they go for fit more than value. Even with them winning the Super Bowl, their offensive line was an issue. They could really use a tackle and guard in this offseason. Su'a-Filo has been shooting up the draft boards and his ability to play in a zone blocking scheme makes him a fit.

2014 Mock Draft (1.0)
1. Houston Texans: Blake Bortels QB UCF
Even though Clowney is the top player in this draft, the Texans will likely take a QB. O'Brien is a QB guru and he is gonna want his guy. Johnny Manziel is the hot name here, but that's all hype to get page views. This pick will come down between Bortles and Bridgewater and it should be close. Both have what O'Brien looks for, but his familiarity with Bortles will be the deciding factor.
2. St. Louis Rams: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
Look for this to be the prime spot for a team to move up to get a QB. St. Louis would love to move down and still get a good player. No matter where they end up with, look for them to take a tackle to help protect Sam Bradford to see what he has. A lot of people have Robinson going here, but I think Matthews may end up being the guy. Head coach Jeff Fisher is familiar with the Matthews family and the fact that Matthews is more ready could lead to him being the pick.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
The Jaguars are in an interesting spot because they'll get a QB, but likely somebody will jump them to get the second choice. But that shouldn't matter because out of the top three they all should do well for the Jaguars. Bridgewater seems like the best candidate because his movement within the pocket and accuracy should remind Gus Bradley of Russell Wilson.
4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
If any team could go from top five pick to the playoffs, it could be the Browns. They have a good defense and playmakers on offense, but lack the most important position. Quarterback. Don't be surprised to see them make a move up to the #2 spot to get the guy they want. They have accumulated several picks in the first three rounds. That guy may be Manziel and he could breathe some life into this organization. That or he could be another colossal Browns bust.
5. Oakland Raiders: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
If Cleveland doesn't move up to get a QB, the Raiders could. With a lot of pressure on GM Reggie McKenzie and HC Dennis Allen to win they may feel the need to move. But if they can't it would be hard not to be happy getting Clowney here. Don't be surprised to see Clowney at this point because there are so many QB hungry teams. Either way the Raiders need playmakers on defense and Clowney gives them that.
6. Atlanta Falcons: Greg Robinson OT Auburn
It's crazy how unlucky of a season the Falcons had with all the injuries and just dumb luck. But they end up with a top six pick and should be able to reload and compete for the NFC Title again. They need a pass rusher and a left tackle. Pass rush is important, but they can't pass on Robinson here. Robinson may have to start at right tackle at first, but even so, the protection would be improving for Matt Ryan.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Khalil Mack LB Buffalo
Under Lovie Smith the Tampa Bay Bucs are bringing the band back together to try and get the Bucs back to their dominant ways. They have some talent, but rushing the passer isn't one of them. They'd love to get a true pass rushing defense end, but outside of Clowney there isn't one in this draft. But they do have the opportunity to a impact player in Mack that will help their pass rush. Think Von Miller with a little less explosion but a lot more powerful. That's what Mack is. He'll likely play the SLB position and slide down to DE in passing situations.
8. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr QB Fresno State
This pick may not take place here, but Carr and the Vikings are a perfect match. With Norv Turner in as the OC the Vikings will look to go vertical. Carr has a strong arm to go with his quick release and can make all the throws in that offense. Carr should be able to win a competition that involves Christian Ponder and Josh Freeman.
9. Buffalo Bills: Sammie Watkins WR Clemson
Watkins is my second rated player in this draft, but because QBs are so needed at the beginning of the draft he falls here. Watkins is a #1 caliber WR who has good size, excellent speed, and a knack for getting open. Watkins can step into Buffalo and move Stevie Johnson to the #2 spot while Robert Woods will be able to work out of the slot. Buffalo's offense immediately improves with just one pick.
10. Detroit Lions: Mike Evans WR Texas A&M
The Lions would love for Sammie Watkins to fall here, but he's not. WR opposite of Calvin Johnson is still important, so adding Evans could help the offense out immensely. Evans would give Matt Stafford another big bodies receiver who can go up and get the ball when he chucks it up there.
11. Tennessee Titans: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
With Tennessee moving to more of a 3-4 look with Ray Horton as their DC, they need outside linebackers who can rush the passer. Barr is still pretty raw, but as an athlete he is second to none. He can use his speed and athletic ability to rush the passer, but is just as good dropping into coverage. His skill set will allow them to do multiple things on defense that should throw the offense off key.
12. New York Giants: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
Even with taking Justin Pugh last year, the Giants still need to invest high picks into their offense line. William Beatty isn't getting it done at left tackle and it may be time to move on. Lewan isn't the greatest run blocker, so that could hurt his chances of coming here. But he is a very talented pass protector and that's what this line needs. Let's just say that Eli would approve this pick.
13. St. Louis Rams: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State
Just like New York in taking another offensive lineman two years in a row, the Rams should take another receiver in the first round. Tavon Austin started off slow last year, but he began to pick it up late and was showing why he was a top ten pick last year. Austin is good, but he's not a #1. The Rams can get that guy here in Benjamin who would finally give Bradford a big bodied receiver who can go up and get the ball.

Injuries were the downfall of the Bears defense last year and no position was hurt more than defensive tackle. That was no more evident in DE Corey Wootton moving down to tackle to provide a fresh body. Even if the Bears resign Melton they need help. Getting a guy like Jernigan would really help because their run defense was so bad last year and he's very stout taking on blocks and clogging the lanes. It will also help that Jernigan can play both tackle positions.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
The popular pick for the Steelers amongst mock drafters is to put Louis Nix here. But as we saw with Terrence Cody years ago, teams aren't willing to take a player this high who isn't a every down player. With that said, the Steelers secondary has struggled in coverage and could use a true lock down corner. Gilbert is the best in this class and would be a very good value here.

Instead they'll go with Cyrus Kouandjio who isn't the athlete that Lewan is, but he's a well rounded player who can help protect the quarterback on those five and seven step drops Arians likes.

Kansas City is getting a steal here.

He's good dropping into coverage, but willing to fly up and make a tackle in the run game. Some even think he could play corner which only helps him match up with slot receivers.

San Diego returned to be a playoff team mainly because of their strong running game. But one of their downfalls was they don't have a lot of playmakers at the WR position. Keenan Allen emerged last year but he isn't a number one caliber guy. If Marqise Lee falls to him he could give them a vertical threat they haven't had since Vincent Jackson left and that could only help their running game.
26. Cleveland Browns: Tre Mason RB Auburn
Many people thought the Browns were crazy to trade Trent Richardson during the season, but it turned out to be a good move by their part. However they are left with no real threat at the position and are forced to find somebody. Tre Mason is my top RB and his play should resemble Bengals rookie Gio Bernard. Pair him up with Manziel, Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron and a solid line and the Browns could surprise.

Bringing in Rob Ryan's aggressive scheme did wonders for the Saints who got back to their style of defense that helped them win a Super Bowl. However they are still needing some pieces in their transition to the 3-4. Ra'Shede Hageman would fit in perfectly with this scheme. Hageman is a physical freak that has the potential to dominant. His aggressive play fits right into the scheme and at 6'6 300 pounds he has the size teams love out of the position.

Both Panther starting safeties are free agents, but they would be better served to upgrade them anyways. Some have Clinton-Dix going in the teens, but this seems like a better fit for him. Either way the Panthers are adding another good young piece to their defense.

When Anquan Boldin was traded to the 49ers it made everybody want to put them as their Super Bowl Favorites. However that addition did little to solve the biggest issue the 49ers had and that they didn't have an elite receiver, especially one that could stretch the field. Now Robinson isn't going to be confused with a burner, but he has the size and leaping ability teams like. Add in good body control and he could be the guy that can help take pressure off of the 49ers run game.
31. Denver Broncos: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
With this being a relative weak DE class, Ealy could easily be gone by here. But Denver needs help rushing the passer and cannot rely on guys like Shaun Phillips. Ealy fits well into their weakside end opposite of Derek Wolfe and give another pass rusher opposite of Von Miller.

Baltimore has a habit of getting good players to fall right into their lap. Mosley could easily go #11 or #12 and nobody would bat an eye. But I don't see him going that high mainly because of the value of the position. But his slide could fall here. Mosley could step into that Rey Lewis role that Rolando McClain was going to take before he retired. Now they can get that spot locked up with another super star from Alabama.
17. Dallas Cowboys: Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Donald really made a name for himself with a dominant performance at the Senior Bowl. His quickness and speed make him a perfect fit as a 3 technique defensive tackle in a Tampa 2 style defense that the Cowboys are trying to run.
18. New York Jets: Eric Ebron TE North Carolina
New York really wanted Tavon Austin last year but missed out on him, and it showed with the lack of playmakers they had on offense. This pick will either be a receiver or tight end and in this case taking the top tight end in the class seems like a slam dunk. If the Jets were able to get a couple of big games out of Kellen Winslow last year, imagine what they could do with a guy some are comparing to Vernon Davis.
19. Miami Dolphins: Zach Martin OL Notre Dame
For all the drama that happened last year with the Dolphins, they almost made the playoffs. It's safe to say that both Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito won't be back. That means they have to get a new left tackle and guard. They'll likely land Brandon Albert who they wanted last year, but they still need that guard. Martin could be the best possible solution. Martin played left tackle at Notre Dame and could get a shot there, but he ultimately could slide inside to guard or even to right tackle. Either way he'll start on their team.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama
Every year there is a team that you can either lock a certain player or position to a team. I think you can do that with the Arizona Cardinals here and a tackle. They'd love to get Taylor Lewan who would fit the Cardinals scheme perfectly, but he's gone. Instead they'll go with Cyrus Kouandjio who isn't the athlete that Lewan is, but he's a well rounded player who can help protect the quarterback on those five and seven step drops Arians likes.
21. Green Bay Packers: Dee Ford DE Auburn
They could go with a tight end, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Jermichael Finley. However the bigger priority may be getting help for Clay Matthews in rushing the passer. Dee Ford made a name for himself with a strong three game performance against Alabama, Missouri, and Florida State. He has knack for getting to the passer and the athleticism to play as an OLB in the 3-4.
22. Philadelphia Eagles: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State
The cornerback situation with Philadelphia isn't the greatest. Cary Williams isn't a slouch, but when he's your number one corner, there is issues. Luckily for the Eagles this class is deep on receiver talent and they could get a steal here with Dennard. Now Dennard isn't the biggest CB out there, but he is a good athlete and just sticks with receivers. He's not nicknamed "No Fly Zone" for nothing.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame
It's crazy to think the Chiefs could go with another defensive lineman after taking so many in previous years. But it's a need again. Tyson Jackson is a free agent and even if he is retained Mike DeVito is nothing more than just an average player. Tuitt is a perfect fit as a 5 technique DE and an even better fit in the Chiefs one gap system. He has the size to take on blocks, but also the athletic ability to disrupt in the backfield. Kansas City is getting a steal here.
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Lamarcus Joyner S Florida State
The Bengals have long been looking for help at the free safety spot and yet to find somebody to unseat Reggie Nelson. That time should come here with Joyner who might remind some people of Seahawks FS Earl Thomas. Joyner is a smaller safety but don't let his size fool you. He's good dropping into coverage, but willing to fly up and make a tackle in the run game. Some even think he could play corner which only helps him match up with slot receivers.
25. San Diego Chargers: Marqise Lee WR USC
San Diego returned to be a playoff team mainly because of their strong running game. But one of their downfalls was they don't have a lot of playmakers at the WR position. Keenan Allen emerged last year but he isn't a number one caliber guy. If Marqise Lee falls to him he could give them a vertical threat they haven't had since Vincent Jackson left and that could only help their running game.
26. Cleveland Browns: Tre Mason RB Auburn
Many people thought the Browns were crazy to trade Trent Richardson during the season, but it turned out to be a good move by their part. However they are left with no real threat at the position and are forced to find somebody. Tre Mason is my top RB and his play should resemble Bengals rookie Gio Bernard. Pair him up with Manziel, Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron and a solid line and the Browns could surprise.
27. New Orleans Saints: Ra'Shede Hageman DT Minnesota
Bringing in Rob Ryan's aggressive scheme did wonders for the Saints who got back to their style of defense that helped them win a Super Bowl. However they are still needing some pieces in their transition to the 3-4. Ra'Shede Hageman would fit in perfectly with this scheme. Hageman is a physical freak that has the potential to dominant. His aggressive play fits right into the scheme and at 6'6 300 pounds he has the size teams love out of the position.
28. Carolina Panthers: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
Both Panther starting safeties are free agents, but they would be better served to upgrade them anyways. Some have Clinton-Dix going in the teens, but this seems like a better fit for him. He can play either safety spot which should help him out, but he seems like a more nature fit at the strong safety where he can come down and help in the run game. Either way the Panthers are adding another good young piece to their defense.
29. New England Patriots: Louis Nix NT Notre Dame
It's clear that the Patriots defense isn't the same when Vince Wilfork isn't manning the middle. However Wilfork isn't going to be around for ever and usually misses significant time. The Patriots picks are always up in the air, but they could target another player who plays a lot like Wilfork. Louis Nix isn't your typical nose tackle, he possess quickness and explosion you normally see out of sub 300 pound tackles. Much like Wilfork. Nix's versatility will allow him to fit right in with the Patriots who love to play a hybrid 4-3, 3-4 defense. Can you imagine a team trying to run on Wilfork and Nix in the same lineup?
30. San Francisco 49ers: Allen Robinson WR Penn State
When Anquan Boldin was traded to the 49ers it made everybody want to put them as their Super Bowl Favorites. However that addition did little to solve the biggest issue the 49ers had and that they didn't have an elite receiver, especially one that could stretch the field. Now Robinson isn't going to be confused with a burner, but he has the size and leaping ability teams like. Add in good body control and he could be the guy that can help take pressure off of the 49ers run game.
31. Denver Broncos: Kony Ealy DE Missouri
With this being a relative weak DE class, Ealy could easily be gone by here. But Denver needs help rushing the passer and cannot rely on guys like Shaun Phillips. Ealy fits well into their weakside end opposite of Derek Wolfe and give another pass rusher opposite of Von Miller.
32. Seattle Seahawks: Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Who Seattle picks is gonna be a question mark until the pick is made. They like to go with perfect fit for their system and that doesn't always translate to whose the best player available. One person they could take in this situation is Moses out of Virginia. He still has some work to do, but the Seahawks need to fix their line and bringing in a player whose got experience at both tackle positions helps. Add in that Russell Okung is always hurt and Moses gives them some insurance.

2014 NFL Draft: Mock Draft
1. Oakland Raiders: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina
Unless a team needs a quarterback it will be a shock if Clowney doesn't go #1. He is the best defensive pass rusher to come out in a long time. He can play in any scheme and should make an immediate impact. Oakland needs impact players on both sides of the ball. Clowney will play opposite of Lamar Houston and give the Raiders two top flight ends. Oakland could go with a QB here, but Clowney could be too much to pass up and Flynn should get a shot.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
They drafted #2 in 2013 and I don't see why they won't again. Taking an OT when you already have one is a dumb move and a lack of not addressing the QB position will get them nowhere. They have to hope that the 2014 QB class is much better than 2013. Quite easily the top QB might be the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner. Manziel has a lot of Brett Farve in him and is a much better passer than people think. He'll bring a lot of play making ability and he fits right into the current trend of QBs that can move.
3. New York Jets: Marqise Lee WR USC
The big talk about the Jets 2013 NFL Draft was about adding Geno Smith, but their lack of effort to add weapons to the offense is a real question mark. Santonio Holmes is nice, but he's a #2 WR. No matter who is their QB is starting they need weapons to be successful. Well taking Lee won't give them that problem any longer. Lee has good size and play making ability you want out of your #1 receiver. Pair him up with Holmes and Jeremey Kerley in the slot and that really does wonders for a poor passing attack.
4. Cleveland Browns: Tajh Boyd QB Clemson
It was no secret that the Browns new coaching staff and front office wanted to upgrade from the Brandon Weeden experience. Unfortunately there wasn't anything to take in the 2013 draft. Pick in the top five again will give them a shot to get a future signal caller. Tajh Boyd really broke out last year at the end of the season and another good season and he could be making a run at the top QB in the draft. Boyd also should be appealing to head coach Rob Chudzinski who coached a similar skilled QB in Cam Newton in Carolina.
5. Tennessee Titans: Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
If the Titans are picking in the top five that means that Jake Locker has continued to struggle and they need to move on. Locker was never worth the 8th pick and now the Titans would be looking for another franchise quarterback. Bridgwater could easily be the first QB taken, but the Titans won't complain getting him here. Bridgewater is highly accurate and with the weapons the Titans have accumulated, they could be a good QB away from playoff contention.
6. Kansas City Chiefs: Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
Kansas City really did a lot of good things this past off season and in the draft, but they still lack some sizzle on offense. Dwayne Bowe is a good receiver and Jonathan Baldwin might develop into a good deep threat, but they lack a real true playmaker. That's what Sammy Watkins could bring to them. Watkins can give Andy Reid that DeSean Jackson type of athlete that can make something out of nothing.
7. Arizona Cardinals: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
They didn't get a chance to draft a LT in the 2013 which is a big need in Bruce Arians vertical passing offense. Add in that Carson Palmer isn't very mobile, they need somebody to be the blind side protector. If Taylor Lewan would have came out in the 2013 Draft he probably would have been at least the third tackle taken. Now he's likely the top tackle but falls here because the QBs in this class are so good. Either way the Cards would love to have him.
8. Detroit Lions: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
It was no secret that the Lions were hoping that Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel would have fallen to them at #5. With Jeff Backus retired they had a huge hole on the left side. Now without getting one of them and not taking any other player, they'll have to hope that Riley Reiff can man the spot. However Reiff is probably better suited to play RT or guard. Luckily for them they can address the position here. Despite playing RT his entire career so far, Matthews was considered a top 15 pick this past year. He is a good athlete and has the frame to be a good LT. He'll get his shot this year and a strong year could vault him to the #1 OT spot.
9. Buffalo Bills: Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama
Despite losing their best offensive lineman in Andy Levitre to free agency, the Bills did nothing to replace him. Sure they feel pretty optimistic about who they have on their roster, but he's void will be missed. What they could do is look to grab one of the top tackles in this class and move Cordy Glenn inside to guard. Glenn has played well at LT, but he could be even better as a guard. Cyrus Kouandjio emerged for the Crimson Tide which allowed Barrett Jones to move inside to center.
10. Carolina Panthers: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State
The strength of this class may be at the cornerback position where several players have the ability to go in the first round. The best in the class may be Roby who uses his elite speed to shadow receivers and has the knack for breaking up passes (lead the nation). Carolina could really use a corner and was rumored to be interested in taking one last year in the first round until Star Lotulelei fell to them. The need is still there with and should be a focus heading into the 2014 off season.
11. Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Tuitt DT Notre Dame
With Dallas moving from the 3-4 to the Tampa 2 the biggest change they need is a 3 technique disruptor of a defensive tackle. If the Cowboys would have stayed put at #18 they could have at Sylvester Williams or Sharrif Floyd, but moving back there wasn't anybody left. But for the defense to be successful, they need somebody. That somebody just might be Tuitt. Manti Te'o got a lot of the attention at Notre Dame, but that was because teams were so focused on the talented Tuitt. He has great size and strength but his best quality is his quickness. He's the ideal disruptor needed.
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Anthony Johnson DT LSU
If Tampa would have kept their first round pick one area they were thinking of addressing was the defensive tackle spot. The Bucs lost Roy Miller in free agency and he was a good run stuffer next to Gerald McCoy. For McCoy to be successful, they needed somebody next to him that was going to command some attention. Johnson did a great job filling in for Michael Brockers and would be a great fit as a 4-3 NT.
13. Philadelphia Eagles: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
It's been a complete overhaul of the Eagles this past off season under new coach Chip Kelly. The offense will be going towards a more uptempo attack while the defense is switching to the 3-4. Kelly wanted to draft Dion Jordan to provide a versatile pass rusher off the edge, but was unable to do so. Without getting a player later on they may have to rely on taking somebody in 2014. Anthony Barr is a former tight end who really took off after switching to rush linebacker. He's still raw, but has the natural talent that will remind Kelly of Jordan.
14. San Diego Chargers: Antonio Richardson OT Tennessee
San Diego accomplished their goal of landing an offensive lineman early in the draft to help protect Phillip Rivers. However DJ Fluker is a right tackle and that still leave the left side (most important side) still a concern. Look for them to patch up the position this year and look to find a solution in the off season. One way they could go is looking towards Tennessee. Antonio Richardson is a talented tackle who was so good that the Vols moved Dallas Thomas (who played well at LT) inside to guard. He has good size, but is a good athlete on top of it.
15. Miami Dolphins: Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE Washington
It was no secret that the Dolphins were high on Tyler Eifert and if they would have stuck to their #12 pick that could have easily been the pick. They do have Dustin Keller, but he isn't a top flight tight end. Austin Seferian-Jenkins could do a lot of wonders for the Dolphins unique offensive attack. Despite his large frame he is a gifted athlete and would provide a lot of mismatches in the passing game. With a creative mind of Joe Philbin and the deep threat of Mike Wallace will really open up the middle for ASJ.
16. Chicago Bears: Jason Verett CB TCU
One of the bigger issues the Bears didn't address in the 2013 draft was adding youth to an aging cornerback position. Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, and Kelvn Hayden are all on the wrong side of 30 with nobody behind them set to challenge. For the Bears new scheme they need corners who can match up man to man and lock down receivers. Jason Verett has made an impact ever since he set foot on TCU's campus including leading the Big 12 in interceptions and passes defended.
17. Minnesota Vikings: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
With two first round picks and then trading back into the first for a third pick everybody thought the Vikings would pick up that middle linebacker of the future in either Alec Olgetree or Manti Te'o. But instead they passed and came out of the draft with no real answer at the position. CJ Mosley decided to come back to Alabama and could have been a first round pick if he did so. He has good athleticism and instincts. He excels in coverage and would be a good fit as a 4-3 middle linebacker.
18. St. Louis Rams: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
With both starting safeties from the 2012 season gone the Rams had to do something to address the unit. TJ McDonald was taken in the third round to be their strong safety of the future. Although they got McDonald they still lack that rangy free safety to complement McDonald's work in the run game. Ha Ha (as Ha'Sean is known) has the speed and range which is needed to play free safety in the NFL and the quickness to match up to slot receivers if needed.
19. Cincinnati Bengals: Aaron Lynch DE South Florida
Lynch lead Notre Dame in sacks as a true freshman, but had to transfer to South Florida due to family reasons. If he picks up where he left off he should become a hot commodity. Cincinnati franchised Michael Johnson and he looks to finally be breaking out, however opposite of him Carlos Dunlap has seemed to regress. Finding another pass rusher would help keep Johnson from facing a too many double teams.
20. New Orleans Saints: Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
It was Ezekial Ansah who got most of the attention at BYU, but Kyle Van Noy had better sack numbers and is a more polished pass rusher. He isn't going to wow you with is athletic ability or size but he is a technician and has a knack for getting to the QB. With New Orleans moving towards a 3-4 they needed to add some pass rushers and the only ones they did were UDFAs. After fixing the secondary look for them to make the rush linebacker a top priority.
21. Indianapolis Colts: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB Oregon
For Chuck Pagano's defense to be successful he needs good cover corners who have good speed and can match up well in man coverage. They like to play the trail position with help from the safety. A perfect fit for that would be Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon. Ekpre-Olomu really broke out this past season leading the Pac 12 in pass breakups. He is really becoming a name people are going to have to learn how to pronounce.
22. New York Giants: Loucheiz Purifoy CB Florida
The run of cornerbacks continues with the selection of Purifoy. Purifoy is a two way player at Florida, but his best fit in the NFL is at corner. Purifoy uses height size and length to be very active in pass defense and that is perfect for Perry Fewells Cover 2 scheme. What is becoming a very strong position group allows the Giants to address a position of needs. What was once a strength is now a concern. Terrell Thomas is coming off injury, Prince Amukamara hasn't developed fast enough, and Corey Webster isn't getting any younger. Adding another piece could really benefit the Giants.
23. Green Bay Packers: Adrian Hubbard OLB Alabama
Finding a comparable pass rusher to pair opposite of Clay Matthews has been a big concern for the Packers. They drafted Nick Perry two years ago, but he has struggled to make the transition in the 3-4 and then was hurt. Add in that Eric Walden left via free agency and there continues to be a big need. They could do what a lot of teams have done lately and look towards the Alabama Crimson Tide and their 3-4 defense. Adrian Hubbard isn't a complete player yet, but he has the size and athletic ability needed to play the rush linebacker and most importantly, the experience. Something most players can't say they have.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Louis Nix NT Notre Dame
Very rarely do nose tackles go in the first round. Mainly because they only play a couple of downs and there really isn't much value in a part time player. But that won't apply here because Louis Nix isn't you average nose tackle. Nix is a lot like Vince Wilfork in that he has rare agility for a 330 pound person and he uses it control the line of scrimmage and create havoc. Pittsburgh desperately needs somebody to replace an aging Casey Hampton, and Nix might be the right guy to do it.
25. St. Louis Rams (From Washington): David Yankey G Stanford
Yankey started last year at left tackle when Jonathan Martin left. He played well there, but his NFL position will likely be at guard or possibly right tackle. St. Louis really helped out their offense this past off season by adding Jake Long at left tackle and drafting Barrett Jones. Adding those two to go with center Chris Meyers and the line is much better. However they still have a hole at the guard / right tackle spot. Roger Saffold will fill one of them, but the other is up in the air. This would be good for Yankey who could fill in at guard where Saffold could man the right tackle spot.
26. Houston Texans: Ryan Shazier LB Ohio State
Once Brian Cushing went down with an injury, the Texans defense was not the same. Bradie James was exposed and they didn't have anybody that could plug up the middle and stop the run. They were rumored to be looking at Kevin Minter, Alec Olgetree, and Manti Te'o but passed on those three and everybody else. They need to replace James who is nearing the end of his career and a perfect player for that is Ryan Shazier. Shazier is a tackling machine with great instincts. Shazier also has the ability to play in coverage which will make Phillips defense which likes to blitz even more dangerous.
27. Atlanta Falcons: Tim Jernigan DT Florida State
With Atlanta struggling to get to the quarterback they spent the off season adding Osi Umenyiora and drafted Malliciah Goodman and Stansly Maponga. However what they failed to do is address the defensive tackle spot and get somebody who could put pressure up the middle. Jernigan is your prototypical 3 technique tackle who uses his quickness to penetrate and disrupt. Adding him with what they did at defensive tackle will really help the team apply the pressure they need.
28. Baltimore Ravens: Brian Strock C Florida State
Matt Birk retiring took away one of the Raven's top offensive lineman. The Ravens were unable to sign a free agent to replace him and passed on the top centers in the draft. They'll have to rely on second year player Gino Gradkowski out of tiny Delaware. Gradkowski wasn't thought too highly coming into the NFL and has a lot to prove. The Ravens inactivity might signal that they are still high on him taking over. But it probably has more to do with them not seeing a great value in anybody in the draft.
29. New England Patriots: Jackson Jeffcoat DE Texas
Over the past few years the Patriots have spent a lot of draft picks looking to get younger and add more playmakers to the defense. The secondary tends to be an area that is in the most need of help, but they show no tendency to draft defensive backs in the first round. Instead Billicek likes to add lineman. Looking to add more pass rushers to the defense it could be too tempting to pass on Jackson Jeffcoat. Jeffcoat has a strong linage and is a relentless pass rusher. The Patriots could really use a full time end in their 4-3 defense.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Coleman WR Rutgers
Everybody was praising the 49ers acquisition of Anquan Boldin and what impact he'll have on their offense. However people are failing to realize that they lack a downfield threat that could really make this offense truly deadly. A player that could really help them out in that area is Brandon Coleman. Coleman has good size (6'5) and elite speed to take the top off the defense and take advantage of Kaepernick's strong arm. Could you imagine what that could do for their already strong running game?
31. Denver Broncos: Aaron Colvin CB Oklahoma
You would think that one of these years Champ Bailey is either going to retire or slow down. But he keeps going. However the Broncos can't just wait for that to happen and could really do themselves a favor by finding an eventual replacement. They added Domminque Rodgers-Cromartie but he has a lot to prove before we label him back. Taking the versatile Colvin would allow him to play the nickel spot before eventually taking over at one of the two starting spots.

With their recent off season, the Seahawks loaded up and don't have hardly any weaknesses. However if there is one area that needs to be improved upon is the weakside linebacker. Leroy Hill has started the past few years, however he wasn't brought back. However even with him back, they needed an upgrade. Christian Jones is that rangy linebacker that the Seahawks like to have in their 4-3 under defense. Jones lead the Seminoles in tackles last year which is pretty impressive.

They didn't get a chance to draft a LT in the 2013 which is a big need in Bruce Arians vertical passing offense. Add in that Carson Palmer isn't very mobile, they need somebody to be the blind side protector. If Taylor Lewan would have came out in the 2013 Draft he probably would have been at least the third tackle taken. Now he's likely the top tackle but falls here because the QBs in this class are so good. Either way the Cards would love to have him.
8. Detroit Lions: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
It was no secret that the Lions were hoping that Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel would have fallen to them at #5. With Jeff Backus retired they had a huge hole on the left side. Now without getting one of them and not taking any other player, they'll have to hope that Riley Reiff can man the spot. However Reiff is probably better suited to play RT or guard. Luckily for them they can address the position here. Despite playing RT his entire career so far, Matthews was considered a top 15 pick this past year. He is a good athlete and has the frame to be a good LT. He'll get his shot this year and a strong year could vault him to the #1 OT spot.
9. Buffalo Bills: Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama
Despite losing their best offensive lineman in Andy Levitre to free agency, the Bills did nothing to replace him. Sure they feel pretty optimistic about who they have on their roster, but he's void will be missed. What they could do is look to grab one of the top tackles in this class and move Cordy Glenn inside to guard. Glenn has played well at LT, but he could be even better as a guard. Cyrus Kouandjio emerged for the Crimson Tide which allowed Barrett Jones to move inside to center.
10. Carolina Panthers: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State
The strength of this class may be at the cornerback position where several players have the ability to go in the first round. The best in the class may be Roby who uses his elite speed to shadow receivers and has the knack for breaking up passes (lead the nation). Carolina could really use a corner and was rumored to be interested in taking one last year in the first round until Star Lotulelei fell to them. The need is still there with and should be a focus heading into the 2014 off season.
11. Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Tuitt DT Notre Dame
With Dallas moving from the 3-4 to the Tampa 2 the biggest change they need is a 3 technique disruptor of a defensive tackle. If the Cowboys would have stayed put at #18 they could have at Sylvester Williams or Sharrif Floyd, but moving back there wasn't anybody left. But for the defense to be successful, they need somebody. That somebody just might be Tuitt. Manti Te'o got a lot of the attention at Notre Dame, but that was because teams were so focused on the talented Tuitt. He has great size and strength but his best quality is his quickness. He's the ideal disruptor needed.
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Anthony Johnson DT LSU
If Tampa would have kept their first round pick one area they were thinking of addressing was the defensive tackle spot. The Bucs lost Roy Miller in free agency and he was a good run stuffer next to Gerald McCoy. For McCoy to be successful, they needed somebody next to him that was going to command some attention. Johnson did a great job filling in for Michael Brockers and would be a great fit as a 4-3 NT.
13. Philadelphia Eagles: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA
It's been a complete overhaul of the Eagles this past off season under new coach Chip Kelly. The offense will be going towards a more uptempo attack while the defense is switching to the 3-4. Kelly wanted to draft Dion Jordan to provide a versatile pass rusher off the edge, but was unable to do so. Without getting a player later on they may have to rely on taking somebody in 2014. Anthony Barr is a former tight end who really took off after switching to rush linebacker. He's still raw, but has the natural talent that will remind Kelly of Jordan.
14. San Diego Chargers: Antonio Richardson OT Tennessee
San Diego accomplished their goal of landing an offensive lineman early in the draft to help protect Phillip Rivers. However DJ Fluker is a right tackle and that still leave the left side (most important side) still a concern. Look for them to patch up the position this year and look to find a solution in the off season. One way they could go is looking towards Tennessee. Antonio Richardson is a talented tackle who was so good that the Vols moved Dallas Thomas (who played well at LT) inside to guard. He has good size, but is a good athlete on top of it.
15. Miami Dolphins: Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE Washington
It was no secret that the Dolphins were high on Tyler Eifert and if they would have stuck to their #12 pick that could have easily been the pick. They do have Dustin Keller, but he isn't a top flight tight end. Austin Seferian-Jenkins could do a lot of wonders for the Dolphins unique offensive attack. Despite his large frame he is a gifted athlete and would provide a lot of mismatches in the passing game. With a creative mind of Joe Philbin and the deep threat of Mike Wallace will really open up the middle for ASJ.
16. Chicago Bears: Jason Verett CB TCU
One of the bigger issues the Bears didn't address in the 2013 draft was adding youth to an aging cornerback position. Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, and Kelvn Hayden are all on the wrong side of 30 with nobody behind them set to challenge. For the Bears new scheme they need corners who can match up man to man and lock down receivers. Jason Verett has made an impact ever since he set foot on TCU's campus including leading the Big 12 in interceptions and passes defended.
17. Minnesota Vikings: CJ Mosley LB Alabama
With two first round picks and then trading back into the first for a third pick everybody thought the Vikings would pick up that middle linebacker of the future in either Alec Olgetree or Manti Te'o. But instead they passed and came out of the draft with no real answer at the position. CJ Mosley decided to come back to Alabama and could have been a first round pick if he did so. He has good athleticism and instincts. He excels in coverage and would be a good fit as a 4-3 middle linebacker.
18. St. Louis Rams: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix S Alabama
With both starting safeties from the 2012 season gone the Rams had to do something to address the unit. TJ McDonald was taken in the third round to be their strong safety of the future. Although they got McDonald they still lack that rangy free safety to complement McDonald's work in the run game. Ha Ha (as Ha'Sean is known) has the speed and range which is needed to play free safety in the NFL and the quickness to match up to slot receivers if needed.
19. Cincinnati Bengals: Aaron Lynch DE South Florida
Lynch lead Notre Dame in sacks as a true freshman, but had to transfer to South Florida due to family reasons. If he picks up where he left off he should become a hot commodity. Cincinnati franchised Michael Johnson and he looks to finally be breaking out, however opposite of him Carlos Dunlap has seemed to regress. Finding another pass rusher would help keep Johnson from facing a too many double teams.
20. New Orleans Saints: Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
It was Ezekial Ansah who got most of the attention at BYU, but Kyle Van Noy had better sack numbers and is a more polished pass rusher. He isn't going to wow you with is athletic ability or size but he is a technician and has a knack for getting to the QB. With New Orleans moving towards a 3-4 they needed to add some pass rushers and the only ones they did were UDFAs. After fixing the secondary look for them to make the rush linebacker a top priority.
21. Indianapolis Colts: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB Oregon
For Chuck Pagano's defense to be successful he needs good cover corners who have good speed and can match up well in man coverage. They like to play the trail position with help from the safety. A perfect fit for that would be Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon. Ekpre-Olomu really broke out this past season leading the Pac 12 in pass breakups. He is really becoming a name people are going to have to learn how to pronounce.
22. New York Giants: Loucheiz Purifoy CB Florida
The run of cornerbacks continues with the selection of Purifoy. Purifoy is a two way player at Florida, but his best fit in the NFL is at corner. Purifoy uses height size and length to be very active in pass defense and that is perfect for Perry Fewells Cover 2 scheme. What is becoming a very strong position group allows the Giants to address a position of needs. What was once a strength is now a concern. Terrell Thomas is coming off injury, Prince Amukamara hasn't developed fast enough, and Corey Webster isn't getting any younger. Adding another piece could really benefit the Giants.
23. Green Bay Packers: Adrian Hubbard OLB Alabama
Finding a comparable pass rusher to pair opposite of Clay Matthews has been a big concern for the Packers. They drafted Nick Perry two years ago, but he has struggled to make the transition in the 3-4 and then was hurt. Add in that Eric Walden left via free agency and there continues to be a big need. They could do what a lot of teams have done lately and look towards the Alabama Crimson Tide and their 3-4 defense. Adrian Hubbard isn't a complete player yet, but he has the size and athletic ability needed to play the rush linebacker and most importantly, the experience. Something most players can't say they have.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Louis Nix NT Notre Dame
Very rarely do nose tackles go in the first round. Mainly because they only play a couple of downs and there really isn't much value in a part time player. But that won't apply here because Louis Nix isn't you average nose tackle. Nix is a lot like Vince Wilfork in that he has rare agility for a 330 pound person and he uses it control the line of scrimmage and create havoc. Pittsburgh desperately needs somebody to replace an aging Casey Hampton, and Nix might be the right guy to do it.
25. St. Louis Rams (From Washington): David Yankey G Stanford
Yankey started last year at left tackle when Jonathan Martin left. He played well there, but his NFL position will likely be at guard or possibly right tackle. St. Louis really helped out their offense this past off season by adding Jake Long at left tackle and drafting Barrett Jones. Adding those two to go with center Chris Meyers and the line is much better. However they still have a hole at the guard / right tackle spot. Roger Saffold will fill one of them, but the other is up in the air. This would be good for Yankey who could fill in at guard where Saffold could man the right tackle spot.
26. Houston Texans: Ryan Shazier LB Ohio State
Once Brian Cushing went down with an injury, the Texans defense was not the same. Bradie James was exposed and they didn't have anybody that could plug up the middle and stop the run. They were rumored to be looking at Kevin Minter, Alec Olgetree, and Manti Te'o but passed on those three and everybody else. They need to replace James who is nearing the end of his career and a perfect player for that is Ryan Shazier. Shazier is a tackling machine with great instincts. Shazier also has the ability to play in coverage which will make Phillips defense which likes to blitz even more dangerous.
27. Atlanta Falcons: Tim Jernigan DT Florida State
With Atlanta struggling to get to the quarterback they spent the off season adding Osi Umenyiora and drafted Malliciah Goodman and Stansly Maponga. However what they failed to do is address the defensive tackle spot and get somebody who could put pressure up the middle. Jernigan is your prototypical 3 technique tackle who uses his quickness to penetrate and disrupt. Adding him with what they did at defensive tackle will really help the team apply the pressure they need.
28. Baltimore Ravens: Brian Strock C Florida State
Matt Birk retiring took away one of the Raven's top offensive lineman. The Ravens were unable to sign a free agent to replace him and passed on the top centers in the draft. They'll have to rely on second year player Gino Gradkowski out of tiny Delaware. Gradkowski wasn't thought too highly coming into the NFL and has a lot to prove. The Ravens inactivity might signal that they are still high on him taking over. But it probably has more to do with them not seeing a great value in anybody in the draft.
29. New England Patriots: Jackson Jeffcoat DE Texas
Over the past few years the Patriots have spent a lot of draft picks looking to get younger and add more playmakers to the defense. The secondary tends to be an area that is in the most need of help, but they show no tendency to draft defensive backs in the first round. Instead Billicek likes to add lineman. Looking to add more pass rushers to the defense it could be too tempting to pass on Jackson Jeffcoat. Jeffcoat has a strong linage and is a relentless pass rusher. The Patriots could really use a full time end in their 4-3 defense.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Coleman WR Rutgers
Everybody was praising the 49ers acquisition of Anquan Boldin and what impact he'll have on their offense. However people are failing to realize that they lack a downfield threat that could really make this offense truly deadly. A player that could really help them out in that area is Brandon Coleman. Coleman has good size (6'5) and elite speed to take the top off the defense and take advantage of Kaepernick's strong arm. Could you imagine what that could do for their already strong running game?
31. Denver Broncos: Aaron Colvin CB Oklahoma
You would think that one of these years Champ Bailey is either going to retire or slow down. But he keeps going. However the Broncos can't just wait for that to happen and could really do themselves a favor by finding an eventual replacement. They added Domminque Rodgers-Cromartie but he has a lot to prove before we label him back. Taking the versatile Colvin would allow him to play the nickel spot before eventually taking over at one of the two starting spots.
32. Seattle Seahawks: Christian Jones LB Florida State
With their recent off season, the Seahawks loaded up and don't have hardly any weaknesses. However if there is one area that needs to be improved upon is the weakside linebacker. Leroy Hill has started the past few years, however he wasn't brought back. However even with him back, they needed an upgrade. Christian Jones is that rangy linebacker that the Seahawks like to have in their 4-3 under defense. Jones lead the Seminoles in tackles last year which is pretty impressive.
