Player Profile: Terrence Williams

Terrence Williams

Height:  6'2
Weight:  208
School:  Baylor
Position:  Wide Receiver
Ranking:  #5 Wide Receiver
Projection:  Second Round

Strengths
-Ideal height (6'2) and weight (208) for a big receiver
-Good quickness that allows him to off the line and in and out of breaks
-Productive.  Lead the nation in receiving yard (1,832) this past season
-Big play threat.  Excellent down the field (Averaged 18.9 yard per catch)
-Uses quickness and good route running to create separation
-Very good start and stop move.
-Excellent at tracking the ball in the air
-Able to make the "highlight reel" type of catch outside his frame
-Can make defenders miss in the open field
-Can double as a kick returner

Weaknesses
-Small Hands (8 3/4") causes him to not catch the ball very clean
-Short arms (30 1/2") make it easier for defenders to get to the ball
-Struggles catching the ball in traffic
-Isn't going to go up and get the ball
-Doesn't create good separation in underneath routes
-Has the tendency to mail in routes if not involved.
-An unwilling run blocker

Summary
Terrence Williams is a big play receiver who is at his best running routes down field.   He lead the nation in receiving this past year with 1,832 yards and averaged nearly 20 yards per catch.  Williams doesn't have that top notch elite speed of a Mike Wallace, but he does have the speed to stretch the field.  He uses that speed and the ability to stop and go to really throw off aggressive defenders and beat them deep.  Once the ball is in the air Williams does a great job of tracking it and can make catches without slowing down.  As good as he is going deep, that is about all he's going to provide.  His small hands and arms make it hard for him to catch the ball in traffic or go up and get the ball.  When he does run short to intermediate routes he struggles to create separation and isn't as impactful.  Williams is merely a run and catch guy.  He'll still be coveted because teams need those speed receivers to open things up the field for other receivers and the running game.  Williams projects as a second round player, but because of his speed it wouldn't surprise me if somebody wanted him that bad and took him in the late first.  A team to really watch is Houston who needs/wants some speed opposite of Andre Johnson.

Player Profile: DeAndre Hopkins

DeAndre Hopkins

Height:  6'1
Weight:  214
School:  Clemson
Position:  Wide Receiver
Ranking:  #4 Wide Receiver
Projection:  2nd Round

Strengths
-Good size of a possession receiver (6'1 214)
-Large hands (10") allow him to catch everything in sight
-Long arms (33 3/8") make it easier to pluck balls out of the air.
-Great leaper (36") that allows him to out jump defenders for the ball
-Good body control allows him to adjust in the air
-Understands how to use his body to shield defenders
-Good athlete.  Played on the Clemson basketball team for a year.
-Knows how to run great routes.  Sets his routes up and uses good foot quickness
-Good fundamentals allows him to excel in run blocking
-Has a nasty streak when blocking in the run game.  Takes pride
-Has a knack for making big catches
-Durable.  No major injuries.

Weaknesses
-Average speed at best. (4.51 40)
-May have trouble creating separation
-Doesn't offer much after the catch
-Does let the ball get to his pads on occasion
-Will have a few focus drops
-Not going to give you much down the field

Summary
DeAndre Hopkins didn't get a lot of attention at Clemson due to Sammie Watkins being opposite of him, but everybody is starting to see why NFL teams are coveting him.  Hopkins is a sneaky good athlete who uses his quickness and savvy route running to get open on short and intermediate routes and move the chains.  Pair that up with his huge (10") hands he catches everything in sight.  He has good size and knows how to use it shielding defenders off and bullying them in the run game.  Now what holds Hopkins back from being one of the elite receivers in this class is he doesn't have great speed and causes him to have low after the catch numbers and not pose much of a threat down the field.  Hopkins will probably never be an elite #1 wide receiver in the league, but he could thrive as an elite #2 receiver.  Hopkins reminds me a lot of Reggie Wayne.  Look for him to go somewhere in the high to mid second round, but I wouldn't be shocked if somebody took him in the late first.

Player Profile: Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz

Height:  6'5
Weight:  249
School:  Stanford
Position:  Tight End
Ranking:  #2 Tight End
Projection:  2nd Round

Strengths
-Ideal Height (6'5) and weight (249) for the position.
-Frame allows him to add weight and not lose a step
-Does a good job stretching the field in the passing game
-Good quickness that allows him get separation and to get off the line
-Good route runner who uses head fakes to keep defenders guessing
-Makes catching the ball look easy.
-Does an excellent job tracking the ball on deep routes
-Knows how to use his body to shield defenders
-Has the ability to make defenders miss in the open field
-Shows good strength (24 reps)
-Big Game player.  Shines when the focus is on (two game winning TD catches)
-Can be flexed out to the slot and have success
-Great ball security.  Only one fumble in career

Weaknesses
-Short arms could make blocking difficult
-Doesn't have that elite speed
-Balance needs to improve in blocking
-Has focus drops on occasion
-Needs to become a better blocker

Summary
With the tight end becoming an important part of NFL offenses teams are going to fall in love with Zach Ertz and what he can bring to the offense.  Ertz is a great route runner who uses his quickness and head fakes to create separation.  He has good size and knows how to use it to "box out" defenders especially in the red zone.  Ertz also excels stretching the field and despite not having great speed he is excellent tracking the ball down field and can create big plays down field.  Teams will also love his flexibility being able to play inline, in the slot, or out of the backfield.  That will allow him to stay on the field and the offense to give different formations to confuse defenses.  The surprising thing about Ertz was the fact that he isn't as good of a blocker as most people think.  With Stanford being a power running team, Ertz actually struggled to be an effective blocker and was used more split out.  However with some added weight and technique he could become an effective blocker.  Look for Ertz to go somewhere in the early to mid second round.  Cleveland is a team to watch.  With a former TE coach as their new head coach they'll look to improve the position that is pretty bare right now.

Player Profile: Tyler Eifert

Tyler Eifert

Height:  6'6
Weight:  250
School:  Notre Dame
Position:  Tight End
Ranking:  #1 Tight End
Projection:  Top 40 pick

Strengths
-Great size (6'6) and length (33" arms) for the position
-Solid frame to add weight
-Good strength (22 reps)
-Can go up and get the ball (35.5" vertical leap)
-Good speed (4.68 40) to be a vertical threat in the seam
-Very athletic who uses good quickness to get in and out of breaks
-Natural pass catcher.  Makes it look easy.
-Experienced.  38 games played.
-Versatile.  Has the ability to line up end line and out in the slot.
-Knows how to use his frame to shield of defenders
-Good body control in the air

Weaknesses
-Doesn't have the big hands you'd like (9.18")
-Durability.  Former back and head injuries
-Needs to do a better job of setting up routes.  Too predictable
-Doesn't offer much after the catch
-Not a great blocker.  Get's overpowered.

Summary
The NFL is a copy cat league and right now teams are having a lot of success with athletic tight ends.  That's a great spot to be in for somebody like Tyler Eifert.  Eifert has the size (6'6) and athletic ability to really help a teams passing attack.  Eifert runs good routes and can go up and pluck the ball out of the air.  He knows how to use his body and can sheild off defenders.  He'll be a great threat in the red zone because of his size, jumping ability, and body control.  The only real problems that Eifert has is that he isn't much of a run after the catch guy and isn't going to offer a whole lot in the blocking game.  Those aren't deal breakers especially blocking because a lot of the top tight ends aren't asked to block a whole lot.  If Eifert can learn the proper technique he can manage to get by.  Because of his ability and the desire for tight ends like him he'll be a hot commodity in the late first and early second round.  Houston and Atlanta could be options in the first rounds but don't look for him to last too long into the second.

AFC Team Needs (West)

West
Denver Broncos
Defensive Tackle
The biggest weakness on Denver's team last year was stopping the run.  A big part of that was the utter lack of talent at the defensive tackle spot.  When Kevin Vickerson is your best tackle, you have issues.  The Broncos brought in Terrence Knighton but he's nothing more than a rotational player.  Their first round pick will likely be a tackle and they could get a good one with either Sylvester Williams or Kawann Short.

Defensive End
What a mess was the Elvis Dumervil's contract situation was.  They thought they had him with a renegotiated contract, but then they didn't and had to cut him.  That means that they are short a starter on an already thin position.  If they can't get something worked out to get him back, they'll have to draft somebody to fill his void.  Sam Montgomery could be an option on day two.

Middle Linebacker
Keith Brooking was forced into the starting role and played pretty well.  But at age 37 he will probably retire.  Joe Mays is the other options, but he isn't very good.  Denver will have the opprotunity to take Manti Te'o or Kevin Minter in the first round, but probably wait till the second day to nab somebody like Kevin Reddick or John Bostic.

Running Back
Under former coach Josh McDaniels the Broncos had a stable of mediocre running backs.  Well they are in year three of John Fox, but they still don't have a bell cow back.  Willis McGahee was that back last year till he got injured.  Age and chronic issues isn't good.  Denver could go with a back in round one and get Eddie Lacy or Le'Veon Bell.  But they'll likely wait till the second or third round where they can get somebody like Stepfan Taylor or Monte Ball.

Safety
Everybody remembers the mental lapse Rahim Moore had against Baltimore that lead to the Ravens winning and getting the the Super Bowl.  But Moore played well for the season and one play isn't going to ruin his career.  It's opposite of him where they need help.  Mike Adams needs to be replaced.  DJ Swearinger could be an option at the end of round three.

Kansas City Chiefs
Offensive Tackle
Kansas City shocked everybody when they franchised Brandon Albert.  But when they released Eric Winston things made a lot more sense  Baring anything shocking, the Chiefs will draft Luke Joeckel and move Albert to the right side.  Also don't be surprised if the Chiefs draft somebody in the 5th or 6th round to take over for Albert when he leaves.

Defensive End
Even after drafting defensive lineman in the first round three times in the past five years, the Chiefs still have a big need.  Tyson Jackson has been a complete bust while Glen Dorsey left for the 49ers in the free agency.  Kansas City signed Mike DeVito but could still use another impact player.  If Jonathan Hankins makes it out of the first round, he could be their guy.

Inside Linebacker
Derrick Johnson has developed into a playmaking force in the middle of the Chiefs defense.  However their is a big hole next to him.  Brandon Siler attempted to fill in last year, but he isn't anything more than a backup in the league.  Kansas City could take somebody like Manti Te'o or Kevin Minter in the second round.  If they pass they probably will have to wait till round four to get a good value.

Guard/Center
The Chiefs had a great free agent pickup with Ryan Lilja who was a pro bowl caliber guard and also step up big time moving to center when Rodney Hudson became injured.  Jeff Allen is the projected starter at left guard but his play last year was uninspiring.  The Chiefs could target Barrett Jones in round two who could play guard and be their backup center if needed.  Because they still have nothing behind Hudson.

Rush Linebacker
What a steal they got in Justin Houston in the third round.  He's developed into a top flight pass rusher and given them somebody opposite of Tamba Hali.  However behind those two they really lack anybody that can make an impact.  They could look to Combine standout Cornelius Washington in the third round to be that third rusher.

Oakland Raiders
Defensive Tackle
Both starting tackles are free agents.  Desmond Bryant signed with the Browns, while Seymour is still out there.  Seymour probably won't be back anyways.  Backup Tommy Kelly isn't starting material.  So they realistically need two new starters.  Picking at #3 they should have the pick of the litter.  If Star Lotulelei's heart checks out it he could be a Raider.  If not, Sharrif Floyd could provide that athletic tackle they've lacked.

Cornerback
When you have to move one of your safeties to cornerback shows how poor this situation is.  They've never really been the same since they let Nnamdi Asomugha walk.  But the good news is Nnamdi is a free agent and the Raiders could return at a discounted rate.  In the draft they could go after Demarcus Milliner with the third pick, but they'll likely have to wait till the third round.

Linebacker
Needing potentially three new linebackers the Raiders have been active in free agency bringing in Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett.  However they could still use another linebacker who can give them some splash  plays.  How good would Jarvis Jones look as a Raider?  Jones could become their strongside linebacker and give coach Dennis Allen his version of Von Miller who he had so much success with in Denver.

Quarterback
Trading for Carson Palmer gave them a solid starter the past couple of years, but they need to look to the future.  Terrelle Pryor wants his chance and he very well may get it.  However they may still take somebody to compete with Pryor.  Geno Smith and Matt Barkley will be in play at three, if not they may take a developmental quarterback in the later rounds.

Safety
Despite moving to cornerback to help out, Michael Huff was released.  Finding somebody to step up in his place and give them help in deep center field will really help this defense.  There isn't anybody worth taking in the first round and without a second round pick they are really missing out on the talented corners.  However in the third round they could look north to Fresno State and Phillip Thomas.

San Diego Chargers
Offensive Tackle
The biggest issue facing he Chargers last year was protecting Phillip Rivers.  Rivers couldn't be kept upright and that made the offense come to a halt.  Left tackle was the biggest issue where Jared Gaither played awful.  San Diego has to hope that Lane Johnson falls to them at #11.  However with a couple teams ahead of them they may have to move up to ensure they can get one of the elite tackles.

Offensive Guard
Not only do the Chargers need two tackles, they could really use an upgrade at guard.  They lost their top guard Louis Vasquez to divisional rival Denver which is a huge loss.  Their top target in the first round will be a tackle, but if they can't get one of the top guys they could look to the two elite guards.  Both Chance Warmack and Jon Cooper would really help this line out.  If they do get a tackle they could take Larry Warford or Kyle Long in round two.

Rush Linebacker
With Shawn Merriman and Shaun Phillips the Chargers once had the two best rush linebackers in the league.  But now Merriman is long gone and Phillips is a free agent.  Melvin Ingram should develop into a good starter, however if they can't resign Phillips they have a gaping hole next to him.  They could target somebody like Ezekial Ansah or Barkevious Mingo at eleven.  However taking somebody in the second round like Jamie Collins might be a better choice.

Inside Linebacker
For the longest time the Chargers have always had a need for inside linebackers.  They brought in Takeo Spikes, but was cut in a cost saving move.  San Diego could go for an impact linebacker like Manti Te'o in the second round, but might be better off waiting till round three to get somebody along the lines of Kevin Reddick or Kiko Alonso.

Wide Receiver
Once they lost Vincent Jackson they really lost their explosive playmaker.  All the guys they currently have a basically possession guys.  They don't have a single player that can make splash plays.  Danario Alexander is the top receiver and he's really good when healthy.  But staying healthy is a big question.  Adding a Robert Woods or Markus Wheaton would really help Phillip Rivers out.

AFC Team Needs (South)

South
Houston Texans
Wide Receiver
For the longest time it's Andre Johnson and that's about it for the Texans receiving core.  Houston  has never really put much effort into bringing in another option, but with the team a contender for the Super Bowl and Johnson starting to decline, the time may be now.  Luckily for them there is plenty of talent that will be available to them at the end of the first round.  Tavon Austin would give them a spark on offense, while Keenan Allen would give them a future number one.

Inside Linebacker
The play of Brian Cushing really masked the lack of a solid second inside linebacker.  When he got hurt they really got exposed.  Bradie James played alright, but he isn't a long term answer.  If the Texans decide to use their first round pick they could land Kevin Minter.  However in the second round they could have a chance at landing Manti Te'o to fill the role.

Safety
Losing Glover Quinn is a bigger loss than many people think.  The Texans loved their safety combo of Quinn and Daniel Manning because both were former cornerbacks.  Having safeties be able to match up in man to man coverage allowed Wade Phillips to dial up extra blitzes.  They really want Ed Reed, but if he doesn't sign they'll have to spend an early pick on somebody.

Rush Linebacker
What was once a huge strength is now an area that needs to be replenished.  A couple of years ago the Texans had Mario Williams, Brooks Reed, and Connor Barwin putting pressure on quarterbacks.  Williams and Barwin have both left and that only leaves Reed and second year Whitney Mercilus.  Finding that third rusher to rotate in with them will now be a priority.

Right Tackle
Being a zone blocking offensive line, the Texans don't normally like to spend high picks on offensive lineman. They rather find gems that are perfect for the scheme.  However Derek Newton struggled to replace Eric Winston and the offense lost a step.  They could easily resign Winston who was cut by the Chiefs, but if they can't, Brennan Williams in the third round would be a good option.

Indianapolis Colts
Nose Tackle
Since transitioning to the 3-4 the Colts have done so without many of the defensive line pieces they need.  The most important piece is having that body eating nose tackle that can clog things up the middle.  They drafted Josh Chapman last year, but he is nothing more than a rotational player.  Adding somebody like John Jenkins in the first round could be an option or Jesse Williams could be their choice in the second round.

Cornerback
The way head coach Chuck Pagano wants to run his defense is to have corners that can lock up in man to man defense which then allows him to blitz from all angles.  Indianapolis traded for Vontae Davis who gives them one lock down, but they need that second guy.  Greg Tolar was brought in from Arizona, but the Colts could easily use their first round pick on Xavier Rhodes or Desmond Trufant if they are still there.  If gone they could target David Amerson in the second.

Guard
Despite the team making the playoffs and Andrew Luck having a great rookie year, that all masked the poor play of the offensive line.  They added Gosler Cherilus at right tackle and also brought in Donald Thomas at a guard spot.  But still need one more guard to really improve the line.  They'll miss out on the top guards in the first round but still have a shot in round two to get a quality player.  Somebody like Dallas Thomas who is a former left tackle would really fit their scheme well.

Wide Receiver
TY Hilton was a great draft pick last year and him Reggie Wayne gave Luck two targets on the outside to work with.  However they could really use one more receiver that would allow Hilton to stay in the slot where he'd be even more effective.  Donnie Avery did give them some help, but he is always injured.  A second day pick on somebody like Markus Wheaton or Quentin Patton would answer their need.

Rush Linebacker
Another position that the Colts really didn't have when they moved to the 3-4 was the rush linebacker.  Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathies were great 4-3 ends, but Freeney struggled in the transition.  Mathies has done well but they haven't had anybody opposite of him.  It is time to move on past former first round bust Jerry Hughes.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Quarterback
Blaine Gabbert should never have been taken #10 overall two years ago and the Jaguars have been paying for it ever since.  Gabbert isn't a starting quarterback and lost his job last year to Chad Henne.  Having the #2 pick is normally a good thing when you need a quarterback but this year there really isn't anybody worth the pick.  They could either take somebody in the second round like Tyler Wilson or give Henne a year and draft one next year.

Defensive End
It's a yearly tradition for the Jaguars to be needing somebody to put pressure on the quarterback.  They'll do something to try and fix it, but they never get the job done.  Could this be the year they finally do so?  Having the second overall pick will give them the opportunity to take somebody like Dion Jordan, Ezekial Ansah, or Jarvis Jones.

Cornerback
You know it's not good when your top returning cornerback is second year pro Mike Harris.  Now Harris showed a lot of promise last year, but they need help bad.  It's too early to take Demarcus Milliner with the second pick, but they'll have to double up and use their second or third round options on somebody.  Darius Slay would be a good option in the second round.

Right Tackle
A couple of years ago the Jaguars doubled up their first and second round picks on offensive tackles taking Eugene Monroe and Ebben Britton.  They thought they had the position set for years to come.  Monroe has not let them down, but Britton had to be moved inside and now is a free agent.  They could really use somebody.  Don't think they use the second pick on Eric Fisher, but they could use a second day pick on DJ Fluker or Menelik Watson.

Safety
Dwan Landry has been released after another poor season.  They'd love to add a strong safety to pair up next to Dwight Lowery who can make an impact in both the passing and run game.  It's a good thing that this is a deep safety class because they probably won't be able to address it till the second day.  TJ McDonald would be an excellent fit.

Tennessee Titans
Cornerback
Tennessee really struggled against he pass last year and a big part of that was the lack of depth at the cornerback position.  Alterraun Verner is a stud, but the could really use somebody opposite of him.  They'd love for Demarcus Milliner to fall to them at pick #10, but that is unlikely to happen.  It's probably too early for Xavier Rhodes or Desmond Trufant, so they'll have to use a day two pick.

Safety
Michael Griffin and Jordan Babineaux both struggled last year.  Babineaux is a free agent is won't be back.  The team had a chance to cut Griffin but decided to keep him on and give him one last shot.  The Titans did sign George Wilson who is underrated, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Picking at ten this could be the landing spot of Texas S Kenny Vacarro.  Especially if Milliner isn't there.

Guard
People often want to blame Chris Johnson for his poor season last year.  However his offensive line deserves a lot of the blame too.  The guard position was a big weakness last year and since the running game is their main offense, it's a must.  They fixed one hole by signing top guard Andy Levitre, but still will look to add somebody at right guard.  Larry Warford in the second round would be a great addition.

Defensive End
The need for a defensive end is no indication of Derek Morgan or Kameron Wimbley.  Both have played excellent for the Titans.  However their big need is added depth because after those two, there isn't anything.  Finding a third rusher could make those two even better because they can be fresh as the game and season wear on.  Damontre Moore could be an option atop round two.

Tight End
After losing Jared Cook to free agency, the Titans were quick to sign Delanie Walker.  Now Walker is vastly underrated.  However his best strength is in the running game.  What the Titans will miss is Cook's ability in the passing game.  Finding an athletic tight end to pair with Walker and give Jake Locker a safety value is a must.

AFC North Team Needs

North
Baltimore Ravens
Inside Linebacker
With Ray Lewis retiring the inside linebacker spot wasn't necessarily a big need, but add in that Darnelle Ellerbe is now in Miami and this went from a mild need to priority number one.  Now they could easily use pick #32 to fill this position.  Manti Te'o gets mentioned a lot for the Ravens, but Kevin Minter from LSU is a better fit and a better prospect.

Left Tackle
Michael Oher started the season at the left tackle position, however it wasn't till he moved to right tackle and Bryant McKinnie came in.  However McKinnie isn't somebody they can count on.  If they have a chance to add somebody to can play left tackle a keep Oher at right tackle is a must.  Menelik Watson could be a possibility at #32 or they could wait till the third round and take a project in Terron Amstead who is raw but has the talent to be a blindside protector.

Safety
They could still get Ed Reed back, but that isn't very likely.  But they also cut Bernard Pollard and will be looking at starting two new safeties.  Matt Elam and Jonathan Cyprien are options at #32.  But if they wait till the second or third rounds they have guys like Shamarko Thomas or Baccari Rambo.

Rush Linebacker
Baltimore is set at outside linebacker starters with Terrell Suggs and Courtney Upshaw.  But what they'll miss is Paul Kruger coming in for Upshaw on passing downs and giving them a second rusher opposite of Suggs.  Jamie Collins is a name that is rising up draft boards, but somebody like Corey Lemonier could really help them out too.

Wide Receiver
Sure Joe Flacco got the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award, but that could have easily gone to Anquan Boldin for all the clutch catches he made.  He's now a 49er and the Ravens will need to add somebody to the slot to give them those tough yards.  Somebody who could be that option is West Virginia's Stedman Bailey who would give them that quick tough slot guy to move the chains.

Cincinnati Bengals
Running Back
BenJarvus Green-Ellis was a good addition last year, but he isn't the every down back and would benefit from the Bengals bringing in an elusive speed back to complement him.  Andre Ellington, Jonathan Frankin and Kenjon Barmer could be options in the third round.  However if they chose to wait even further they could get a solid back like Stefphron Jefferson from Nevada.

Right Tackle
This need could easily be filled just by resigning Andre Smith.  If the Bengals can get something worked out that would definitely give them more flexibility in the draft.  But if Smith isn't brought back they can go to a fimilar spot to get his replacement.  DJ Fluker from Alabama would be an excellent replacement and be a plug and player starter for them and their run game.

Safety
Nate Clements was moved to safety because of poor play but he is naturally a corner.  Him and Chris Crocker are both free agents and might not be back.  However they could probably do better.   If Kenny Vacarro is available he'll likely be their choice but Jonathan Cyprien is a good second choice.    But Mike Zimmer loves those physical strong safeties, so somebody like Shawn Williams could be an option in the middle rounds.

Center
When Trevor Robinson is starting at center for you in the playoffs, there is a big issue.  Kyle Cook and Jeff Faine were both injured, but they could really benefit from getting younger here.  In the second round they could go with Barrett Jones.  However California's Brian Schwenke is emerging as one of the top centers in the draft and could really help the Bengals.

Linebacker
Cincinnati was rewarded for giving Vontaze Burfict a chance as a undrafted free agent last year and he's emerged as one of the best young linebackers in the league.  With Maualuga moving to strongside linebacker and Manny Lawson gone that opens up one starting spot. Burfict was great last year on the weakside, however he could easily be moved inside if needed.  They could add Alec Olgetree in the middle or wait and take either Arthur Brown or Khassem Greene to play the weakside and move Burfict inside.

Cleveland Browns
Quarterback
Even though Brandon Weeden was taken in the first round last year, there is no guarantee that he's considered to be the franchise quarterback.  With a new regime in town, they'll want their guy and might not feel that a 30 year old second year player is the guy.  They'll kick the tires with Geno Smith and Matt Barkley.

Cornerback
With Joe Haden on one side they have a dynamic shut down corner.  But they've haven't had anybody opposite of him that has been able to lock down the starting role.  If Demarcus Milliner falls to them they could make him their choice.  However they'll probably have to wait till day two to get somebody.   A middle round option is Leon McFadden is is vastly underrated.

Tight End
When your head coach is a former tight ends coach, you know that this position is going to be a priority.  Jordan Cameron has a ton of potential, but he is still very raw.  Other than him they really don't have anybody that can provide any help.  Zach Ertz would be great if he falls to them in the second round but they don't have a second round pick and will have to wait for a Gavin Escobar or Joseph Fuaria in the third or fourth rounds.

Inside Linebacker
Cleveland is likely to be moving towards a 3-4 defense so they'll likely need somebody to plug and play here.  Chris Gocong is coming off of a knee injury and can't be counted on.  With D'Qwell Jackson they have an athletic middle linebacker, but they need that physical downhill run stuffer to pair next to him.  A late round option could be Will Compton who would thrive in that position.

Wide Receiver
They used their second round pick on Josh Gordon in the supplemental round.  After starting out slow he really started to pick it up at the end.  What they really need is a possession type receiver to work the middle of the field.  Greg Little was thought to be that guy, but he drops too many passes.  TCU's Josh Boyce could be somebody to fill in that role.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Outside Linebacker
The tandem of Lamar Woodley and James Harrison was once of of the most feared pass rushing duo's in the league.  However Harrison struggled with age and was cut.  They'd love for Jarvis Jones to be there at #17, but that isn't likely.  However Barkevious Mingo would be a good fall back option.  They could also target Cronelius Washington or Trevardo Williams who both fit the type of linebackers they like.

Cornerback
With Keenan Lewis now a former Steeler they need a new starter to keep William Gay at the nickel spot.  Pittsburgh doesn't have a lot of depth, so they could double up here.  In the first round they could go with Xavier Rhodes or Desmond Trufant, but players like David Amerson or Jordan Poyer could be choices on day two.

Wide Receiver
Losing Mike Wallace is one thing, but if the Steelers also lose Emanuel Sanders also that would be huge for their offense.  But even with Sanders back they'll still need to add somebody unless they want Plaxico to play a major role.  If they want a prospect similar to Wallace then Terrence Williams would be a great option in round two.  But if they want a big physical receiver they could target Keenan Allen with pick #17.

Safety
It seems like Troy Polamalu is always hurt.  Can they really trust that he'll play all 16 games and then into the post season?  They are big fans of Kenny Vacarro and could take him with their first round pick.  If he isn't there they could target Eric Reid in the second round.  Reid would give them a safety that could play both the free and strong positions.

Inside Linebacker
Sean Spence was drafted to eventually take over for Larry Foote.  However Spence hasn't shown that he can play in the 3-4 and they need somebody to pair next to Lawrence Timmons.  Manti Te'o could be their option if he falls to the middle of the second round.  Te'o would give them a physical thumper inside to go with the athletic Timmons.

AFC Team Needs (East)

East
Buffalo Bills
Quarterback
Even before they cut Ryan Fitzpatrick the Bills had a big need at quarterback.  His contract not withstanding he was never seen as the long term solution.  General Manager Buddy Nix has talked about their desire to land a franchise quarterback this off-season and if history shows us anything, that could mean they'll be drafting one at #8 regardless of value.  Ryan Nassib has been a hot name with his ties to new Head Coach Doug Marrone.  But don't rule out Matt Barkley whose stock is on the rise again.

Wide Receiver
Stevie Johnson and that's about it.  Not a good sign when summing up Buffalo's receiving group.  They could really use a bigger possession type receiver that would complement Johnson well.  Luckily there should be a quality group of receivers available in the second round that they could target.  Somebody like DeAndre Hopkins or Justin Hunter could easily do that job.

Guard
Losing starting left guard Andy Levitre to the Titans leaves a huge hole that needs to be filled.  They could slide Cordy Glenn to guard and then draft a tackle.  But look for the Bills to take a long look at Alabama guard Chance Warmack at #8.  If they pass on him there Larry Warford or Kyle Long could be options in round two.

Middle Linebacker
The Bills haven't been too happy with the development of starting middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and they are looking for a player with good range that can match up with the talented tight ends that they'll see a lot of.  A player to watch in the middle rounds is Florida MLB John Bostic.  Bostic is a sideline to sideline linebacker that could fill what they are looking for.

Defensive End
You would think this would be an area of strength with last year's signings of Mario Williams and Mark Anderson.  However both were very underwhelming last year.  Williams is more proven and was injured  while Anderson shouldn't have gotten the big contract in the first place.  Add in that Chris Kelsey retired and they need to add somebody opposite of Williams.

Miami Dolphins
Cornerback
The combination of Sean Smith and Vontae Davis gave the Dolphins one of the top cornerback tandems, but with last year's trade of Davis and now Sean Smith signing with the Chiefs they are desperate to get some talent there.  They'll hope that Demarcus Milliner falls to them at #12 otherwise they'll have to either trade back or wait till the second round.

Offensive Tackle
Jake Long won't be back and that means the Dolphins have to decide whether Jonathan Martin can be a full time left tackle or not.  Either way they need to add somebody.  They'd hope that Lane Johnson somehow falls to them otherwise they could target somebody like Menelik Watson on day two.  However if feel that Martin can play left tackle, DJ Fluker could be a possibility.

Defensive End
Miami has an elite pass rusher in Cameron Wake but he's their only pass rushing threat.  Right now Jared Odrick starts opposite of him and is more of a run stuffer than pass rusher.  They could really add another pass rusher to bring in on passing downs to fill in for Odrick.  With neither a cornerback nor tackle likely available, the Dolphins could land a pass rusher at #12.  Somebody like Dion Jordan or Ezekial Ansah could be brought in to be specialists before developing into every down players.

Guard
Both Richie Incognito and John Jerry are just average guards.  They're not great, but they also not hurting the team.  But if they had a chance to upgrade it wouldn't be a bad idea.  At a minimum adding depth a great idea.  Chance Warmack or Jon Cooper could be in play at #12, but likely they would use a 4th or 5th rounder on somebody.

Running Back
This isn't a huge need, but with Reggie Bush leaving to the Lions, the Dolphins are hoping that Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller can step up and provide a solid 1, 2 punch.  However what have these two done to warrant that trust?  With the large group of talented running backs in the middle round they could take one to  add to the mix.

New England Patriots
Right Tackle
This position could be taken care of with a quick resigning of Sebastian Vollmer.  However if they aren't able to get a deal done they'll have a huge hole to fill as Vollmer is one of the best right tackles in the league.  But if they don't do it, they'll have plenty of options in this draft.  DJ Fluker at the end of the first round would be a great addition while Brennan Williams, Chris Faulk, or Ricky Wagner could be options in the third or fourth rounds.

Defensive End
Chandler Jones was a great addition last year, but they could really use somebody to start opposite of him because Jermaine Cunningham isn't getting the job done and Rob Ninckovich is pass rushing specialist.  Bjoern Werner would be a great addition of he falls.  However a versatile player like Datone Jones could really catch Billicek's attention.

Defensive Tackle
With New England playing more of a 4-3 defense the past couple of years they really haven't had much of a pass rush because they have more run stuffers.  They'd love to add somebody who could come in passing situations and give them some pressure up the middle.  A second day pick could be in line here, maybe somebody like LSU's Bennie Logan.

Wide Receiver
They brought in Danny Amendola to replace Wes Welker and Donald Jones was also signed, but they desperately need somebody on the outside to stretch the defense.  Brandon Lloyd was thought to be that guy but he struggled last year and was cut.  They could look to Baylor wide receiver Terrence Williams in the second round to take the top off the defense and free up their talented tight end duo.

Offensive Line Depth
It must be pretty nice to have one of your biggest needs as depth.  New England has a talented offensive line, but are pretty thin.  Their top reserve Donald Thomas gave them a very talented player off the bench, but now he'll likely be starting for the Colts.  They could add Justin Pugh who could help them at both tackle and guard.

New York Jets
Quarterback
When your head coach preaches competition at the quarterback spot, you know that Mark Sanchez's time in New York is limited.  But we all knew that.  They signed David Garrard, but look for them to draft somebody.  Probably not at #9, but they'll likely take somebody in the top of the second round and hope they can get the next Andy Dalton or Colin Kaepernick.

Rush Linebacker
The Jets haven't had a great pass rushing specialist since John Abraham and the lack of a pressure from the outside really has hurt their defense.  Without a top tier quarterback available to them at #9, they could use this opportunity to get that pressure they desperately need.  Ezekial Ansah, Barkevious Mingo, or Dion Jordan would all be great fits.

Wide Receiver
This position hasn't been the same since they jettisoned Jericho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards.  If they want to give their offense a chance, they'll have to bring somebody in to pair up with Santonio Holmes.  A receiver at nine is too early but in the second round they should have plenty of options with DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Hunter and Robert Woods.

Tight End
Dustin Keller has left for Miami, but the Jets needed an upgrade anyways.  Whoever is their quarterback, they'll need a safety valve that the tight end provides.  Luckily this draft class has some depth to it where they can get a quality prospect on day two.  Dion Sims would give them a good blocker and receiver while Vance McDonald is another tight end that could give them that complete package.

Safety
Rex Ryan loves safeties and without Laron Landry and Yeremiah Bell coming back they'll have to draft somebody.  They'll have plenty of choices to choose from come April.  Phillip Thomas and DJ Swearinger would give Rex Ryan the cover safeties he likes.  They could also double up and add a run defender like TJ McDonald or Robert Lester in the 5th or 6th rounds.

Player Profile: Brennan Williams

Brennan Williams

Height:  6'6
Weight:  318
School:  North Carolina
Position:  Offensive Tackle
Ranking: #6 Offensive Tackle
Projection: 3rd / 4th Round

Strengths
-Ideal size height and bulk for an offensive tackle.
-34" arms that he uses to keep defenders off his body
-Good athlete who moves well
-Very strong punch that jolts defenders
-Quick first step in the run game that allows him to make first contact
-Good strength that makes him able to move defenders in the run game
-Uses good athletic ability to get to the second level
-Great overall strength
-Has that nasty streak that you love out of a lineman
-Family history.  Dad played in the league for seven seasons

Weaknesses
-Very inconsistent in pass coverage.
-Lacks a strong anchor.  An average bull rush gets him off balance.
-Slow feet that don't always move.  Cause him to get beat by faster ends
-Poor footwork
-Durability.  Knee and labrum issues
-Not a natural knee bender.  Leads to him being off balance at times
-Isn't quick to recognize blitzes and stunts
-RT only at UNC

Summary
When you have an offensive tackle with the ideal frame (6'6 318) and good athletic ability he's going to be coveted by almost every team.  Brennan Williams fits that bill.  He has the height, length (34" arms), and quickness that you need to play LT in the NFL.  However Williams just can't translate those things into becoming a top tier LT.  Let alone play LT for the Tar Heels.  His biggest issue is his poor slow footwork.  Because of that he struggles in pass protection and gets beat by quicker defensive ends.  Add in that he doesn't have a high IQ when it comes to blitzes and stunts and he can get a QB hit a bunch.  But when asked to run block it's a totally different blocker.  Williams is aggressive, hits hard and is a force.  No wonder why Giovanni Bernard was able to run so successfully.  Williams fires off the ball and can move defenders off their spot to open the run lanes.  If Williams can get the pass protection figured out he could be a long time starter in the league.  Otherwise he'll be an above average right tackle or possible a swing tackle.  But because of his potential, some team (possibly a zone blocking team) looking for somebody to come in and compete for the starting right tackle spot will take him somewhere in the 3rd-4th round range.

-Does an excellent job of taking away pass rushers to his outside.

-Struggles to maintain blocks in the run game.  Let's guys get off him.
-Struggles with speed rush to the inside
-Was a RT only at FSU
-Plays at too high of a pad level
-Still developing a good anchor
-Gets off balance at times
-Isn't overly aggressive or possess a mean streak

Summary
Menelik Watson is a former college basketball player who came to football after watching a Florida State game and falling in love with the sport.  He didn't see much of a future as a 6'5 post player and thought that football could be the key to a better life for his family.  Watson played one season at Saddleback Community College and then this past year at Florida State.  Watson is still very raw, but flashes a lot of skill that has already impressed scouts, coaches, and general managers.  He is a good athlete and uses that in pass protection to keep defenders in front of him and off the quarterback.  He has room to improve as a run blocker but was used in pulling to get out and attack defenders in the open field.  Watson does have a lot of areas he needs to improve on, but most of those concerns are all from inexperience and adding more strength.  Because of his lack of elite strength and good athletic ability Watson might be best suited to play in a zone  blocking scheme that can highlight those strengths.  But with some good coaching he should be able to fit into any scheme.  He has the size and athletic ability to be a left tackle in the NFL.  Watson will likely go in the second round, but don't be too surprised if some team takes a chance and picks him in the late 1st round.

Player Profile: Justin Pugh

Justin Pugh

Rank:  #9 Offensive Tackle
Projection:  5th Round

Strengths
-Experienced.  Started 37 of 37 games.  All at Left Tackle
-Has room to add bulk to frame
-Very quick (1.67 10 yard split.  3rd fastest for offensive lineman)
-Does a great job of getting set in his pass pro

-High Football IQ.  Understands scheme and stunts/blitzes
-Strong Character with excellent work ethic.

Weaknesses
-Short Arms (32") for a tackle
-Doesn't have much strength which causes him to have a weak anchor.
-Needs to add weight.  Played under 300 lbs
-Doesn't have the ideal height for a tackle
-Doesn't play with great pad level.  Can be stood up by defenders
-Not an over powering run blocker.  More shield blocker

Summary
Before the draft process started there was a lot of buzz about Justin Pugh possibly making his way into the late first round consideration.  However Pugh was dominated for most of the Senior Bowl and it really raised some questions about where he should play in the NFL.  Pugh has the athletic ability to be a LT.  He moves well, has good footwork, and can mirror defenders.  Add in his good technique and you have something to work with.  But the big issues lie in his size.  He's only 6'5 and barely 300 lbs.  He played most of his career in the high 280s.  With his lack of bulk and not dominant strength he can get pushed around a lot.  There are several times on tape where the defender was able to get under him and move him around or had him pushed back into the QB.  There is talk that Pugh might be a guard, but I don't know how he would do dealing with stronger defensive tackles.  Right now I'd think his best fit would be as a Right Tackle in a zone blocking scheme.  There he could use his athletic ability and technique to beat defenders.  But don't look for him to go anytime in the first couple of days.  Pugh might be a 4th round pick at best.

Player Profile: Kyle Long

Kyle Long

-Left Florida State because of off the field issues
-Needs to get stronger.  Lacks a strong anchor
-Inexperienced.  Started college career as a baseball player
-Was moved from tackle to guard because of struggles

Summary
Kyle Long is one of the  most intriguing prospects in this draft.  Long has the length and athletic ability that you need to play Left Tackle in the NFL.  However is best suited to play guard because he doesn't have the longest arms and has struggled to mirror defenders which caused Oregon to move him inside to guard.  At guard he seemed more natural and uses his quickness and athletic ability to beat defenders and create a clean pocket and open up running lanes.  Long also had surprisingly good technique for somebody with less experience and used that technique to take defenders out of the play.  Oregon also took advantage of that and pulled Long on a consistent basis.  Long does a great job of getting out and finding defenders in the open field and making good contact with them.  Look for whatever NFL team lands him to do much the same.  The biggest draw back to Kyle Long is his lack of overall strength.  But he should get stronger since he is still developing.  Look for Kyle to be drafted somewhere in the early 2nd round, but it may not be a shock to see him go in the late 1st if a team feels they can move him outside to tackle.  However Kyle's best fit may be in a zone blocking scheme that could take advantage of his athletic ability.
